Anyone else been through this? I am dreading it. DD has reflux, has been projectile vomiting, and also has blood in her stool as of last night. Pedi GI ordered the tests for tomorow morning. Any advice is appreciated!
I am an xray tech. There is nothing to worry about with the Upper GI. They will just put Barium (contrast visible on xrays) in her bottle and watch as she drinks it. Make sure that you skip the morning feeding though so she is hungry enough to drink the barium. If she has some white in her next few bowel movements or so, don't be alarmed, the barium has to come out somewhere
As for the bloodwork, it will probably be worse for you than it will be for her LOL!
LO had an Upper GI on Monday and it wasn't bad. He didn't have to do the bloodwork b/c he didn't end up having reflux. I just wanted to check since he was having some symptoms of silent reflux. Like the xray tech PP stated, it's pretty easy and they just eat that white liquid from a bottle with their own nipple since it's pretty thick. We were told the feed him 3 hours before so he would have an empty belly. I hope they can help your LO, reflux is no fun!

You will be harder on yourself then the procedure will be for LO. DS has had 5 of them (b/c he was 3 1/2 months premature) I was a wreck each time they had to do it but he never seemed very bothered by it. I hope everything goes well. GL

My little one had an upper GI done in the hospital before discharge. He did fine. Just be prepared to see whiter/lighter colored poop since the barium is white. This caught me off guard at first.
