Do multiples run in your family? Or was it just "luck"?

I am an identical twin, and looking forward to TTC after my wedding in October. My grandmother was a fraternal twin aswell. How many of you carrying twins, or more, have multiples in the family? Used Medication to help TTC? or None of the above. I have always been very curious on this topic.

I have 17 sets of fraternal twins in the last 5 generations of my family. We did not use any meds when TTC.

I took 50mg Clomid for 1 cycle. My 1st cousin also got pg with twins on Clomid (so I would assume our family is a bit more predisposed than some), but she m/c and then got pg with a singleton on Clomid. A great aunt of mine had fraternal boys I believe.

I think it is about a 50/50 spread on this board between spontaneous and some sort of IF treatment. For us it was "luck." Although, as an FYI, while most of the women here are happy to have their babies, many wouldn't consider it lucky as there are lots of difficult pregnancies and losses out there. That said, I do consider myself lucky, blessed, whatever you call it to have my boys.

I am very blessed to have multiples, however there are days that I wish they were singlentons and that I could have skipped the difficult things, high risk pregnancy, NICU stay etc.

To answer your question I used drugs.. but multiples also run in my family.

My girls are ID which means genetics don't matter, so just plain luck. As it happens however my mom was a twin and her mom has twin brothers which is why I was sure they were fraternal, but nope.

There are no multiples on my side of the family, and we did not have any treatments. It just happened.

We have no other multiples in our family, and did not use fertility assistance so technically my twins were spontaneous.

HOWEVER, I had recently had surgery on my uterus so in my opinion the hyperovulation was probably caused by my hormones being out of whack post-surgery.

I am a fraternal twin and have identical twins but identical twins have been determined not to be genetic and just a "fluke" so I guess you could say it was just luck. Other than myself and my sister, there are no other twins in my family that we know of.

Twin's do run in my family. Some identical and some fratenal. I ended up having identical twins, which have nothing to do with running in families. I didn't take any treatments to end up with twins it just happened. I'm also only 20 and my first children so I guess I just had to be blessed with two little ones

I took 50mg of clomid and it worked within the first cycle. We had tried for a while before that, but the doc wanted to be get pregnant quick once we got trying to prevent my endo from growing back. I'm so glad it worked and couldn't be happier! It was a huge surprise to have twins since it doesn't run in my family in the slightest.

***Just FYI one question pretty much ALL MoMs despise is, "Do twins run in you family!?" It is asked ALL THE TIME starting during a twin pregnancy and as far as I can tell doesn't stop...

No multiples on either side of our families... not that DH's family history matters...but most people still ask. LOL. No fertility treatment. nothing. We had unprotected sex once... on a random day... thinking maybe we wanted another baby, so we'de try once and it if happened it happened...and we got two.

Edited to add... our babies are identical... so a random fluke

My grandpa is a twin, my grandma had two sets of twins, and I have 6 cousins who have all had twins. We conceived on our first try.....we like to say that I am fertile mertle and my husband is a sharp shooter! LOL

For some reason I dont mind this question coming from a MoM but yeah, the random stranger who just wants to know for no apparent reason bugs me. Lol.

To answer the OP question my ID girls were spontaneous. However ds was only 4 months when we got pg so Im not sure if hormones or anything caused my egg to split or not. I think its just a random thing and no real know reason to why it does.

There are no other multiples in my family.

We did IVF and put back two blasts, and both took. Actually, my older sister has identical twins randomly, so people keep asking if it runs in the family or they just assume it does because they don't know ID is random.I'm out to some friends about our struggles, but not everyone, and Dh is pretty private, so I'm fine with people assuming it runs in the family.

I can absolutely understand why couples would be private about it, I cannot believe how many COMPLETE STRANGERS ask if we did fertility treatments to get our twins... Really? I dont get how that is one of the first things a stranger thinks of asking!
