Thinking of sending this to MIL===

"A healthy pregnancy, and healthy weight gain is entirely dependent on the individual. Obesity among pregnant women is becoming more common and researchers have recently recommended that obese women gain little to no weight during pregnancy.  Some women even report losing weight during pregnancy, which can still be healthy if the mother is overweight to start. Women at a healthy Body Mass Index (BMI) should gain between 25-35 pounds according to experts. By the time you reach full term, much of your poundage has little to do with fat. Here?s a breakdown: baby (7-9 lbs.), placenta (2 lbs.), amniotic fluid (2 lbs.), increased blood volume (4-5 lbs.), uterine enlargement (2 lbs.), fluid in maternal tissue (3-4 lbs.), engorged breasts (1 lb.),  and added pounds of fatty tissue to help nourish the baby during pregnancy and breastfeeding. "

I want to send this to her so she will stop saying that I am starving my baby and that she's going to have all kinds of problems because I am "afraid of gaining a little bit of weight".  I'm a large girl...so is she!  I'm 36 weeks and I've gained a grand total of 9 pounds.  My doctor is actually praising me because I didn't take the cue to "eat for two".  He says that other than the breech issue and my pelvic ligaments, my pregnancy and my baby are in 100% perfect health.

SUCK IT MIL!

  • I would totally send it!  Just say it's to put her mind at ease that her grandchild will be fine!  Great job on the weight gain!

  • I may do just that!  I tried to very calmly explain to her that I'm not starving myself...I've only gained minimal weight because as soon as we found out I was pregnant, I started eating a lot more fruits and veggies and just better in general.  Hopefully, if i can keep it up after she's born, I can actually LOSE some weight.

  • I am copying and pasting this to my aunt who thinks i have not gained enough. Like you i was overweight to begin with . Had severe M/S first four months so i lost weight and now im gaining slowly if at all. I too started eating veggies fruits just being more aware of what i consumed cause it would effect baby. Kuddos to you

    SUCK IT MIL!

You can add that everyone is different and that even people who are extremely skinny dont always gain loads of weight. If you are eating healthy and your doctor is unconcerned then she can go suck on some jellybeans.

Im almost underweight and with my son I gained 12 pounds... granted i didnt have a huge baby, I still had a wonderful Healthy and happy little boy.

This time around I see myself gaining 35 pounds.

  • Send it.  And- excellent job on the weight gain! You rock!

  • Send it!! That's awesome you only gained 9lbs. I've gained 40...but I was very very little before.  BUT if I even tell people about how much weight I have gained they freak out like I'm going to "starve the baby" to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight.  I would never do that.  Its like "oh honey, don't worry about the 40lbs, that baby needs nourishment!" -- umm...I'm not depriving him of any nourishment...I've GAINED 40lbs! gheeze!

  • Good for you!! I had lost weight before getting pregnant, but was still a big girl, and have been trying to not gain much, but I have been failing miserably. I started this PG at 180 and am already up to 210. And I still have 12 weeks left!

Again, congrats on the minimal weight gain!

  • I also started out overweight and the dr told me she only wanted me to gain about 15 pounds throughout the whole pregnancy. Well, I'm at 28 weeks and have only gained 1 pound. MH was hinting at the idea that our baby would be under weight. He was more just joking but was also slightly concerned. But our last US showed the baby to be at normal growth and weight so I told him to back off lol. Plus he sees how much I am eating and knows that I couldn't possibly eat more than I already am. I hope I stay within your weight range as I get closer to the end. Good job!
