New to The Bump

Just started TTC..

Hi ladies...I am new to this blog and site. My husband and I have known each other for 10 years. We've been married for almost 10 months are ready for a baby! We are both really healthy, don't drink (only on occasion/socially) or smoke and I don't even drink coffee. I started taking prenatal vitamins a little over 2months ago to start preparing my body.We started trying this past cycle, but I didn't get pregnant. I went to my gyno a few months ago to make sure I was healthy and ready. He said I had the green light and that I my ovulating days would be between days 10-16. I have been tracking my periods since January and my average cycle is 26 days nad my period usually lasts about 5 days.

When we ttc this last cycle, we started the 9th, again on the 11th, 13th and 14th. Nothing happened. I am trying NOT to think about it, but when you think you're doing things according to what the doc says and the books, it's hard NOT to think about it.

I know it's only the 1st try, but I just thought we'd get lucky. Any advice? Also, is it possible to ovulate even before the 10 days, since my period and cycles are shorter?

Re: Just started TTC..

  • First I'd take your dr's advice with a grain of salt. How does he know when you would ovulate? And you only ovulate on one day.

Second, I'd get a copy of Taking charge of Your Fertility and/or sign up for fertilityfriend.com. They can give you ways to track your cycle so you know when you ovulated. You may also want to consider ovulation prediction kits, available at the drugstore.

And try to keep in mind that the average healthy couple can take up to a year to conceive, and that you have ideally about a 20% chance of success every cycle.  Both stats are perfectly normal and nothing to be worried about.

  • My dr told me that if my cycle is 28days to act like it's actually 24dys(shorter cycle), so that you are trying earlier just incase I was off on when I was "actually" ovulating.

I think dr. Loretta has great idea :-)
