I SAHM w/ my two kids and rarely get out. I live in a city area with very little safe or good places to jog or exercise, esp. w/ the kids. I do plan to go to the gym again at the summer's end. Right now my DH has the car all day for work so I don't have it, and am stuck home mostly. So my goal is to kick start my weight loss by using the exercise ball I have at home and getting on a diet plan. Any suggestions? My biggest culprit in the way of any 'diet' is soda. Been drinking it daily and a lot of it for years, have tried to stop numerous times and failed. Anyone else have success as a SAHM losing weight without getting out much to exercise and/or kicking the caffeine habit?
Re: Dieting Plan Ideas For A SAHM
I've found that there are two types of workout videos out there - the ones that have you dance and do various moves and the ones that are pure workouts. I am not at all coordinated in the dancing sense so I love pure workouts. I just bought a 90-day program called Supreme 90 Day from Bed Bath & Beyond for $15 ($20-$5 coupon) (you need an exercise ball and hand weights). I really like it so far. It's intense but you can scale back as you need to until you're ready. I'm already seeing results.
Get some exercise videos that work with your preferences and that you will *actually do*. Combine that with healthy eating. When I crave a soda, I pop a can of sparkling water instead. I love the fizziness and I feel like I'm getting the refreshment of a soda without the sugar or chemicals. Wean yourself slowly off caffeine and simply don't keep junk food in the house. You won't eat it if it's not there. Buy fruits and veggies, lean meats, whole grains, lean dairy like greek yogurt, etc., and prepare the fruits/veggies ahead of time so that you can just grab and go.
I buy fresh or frozen fruit and keep it in the fridge for snacks or to go on my grapenuts in the morning. I buy broccoli at the store, cut it up when I get home, and store it in a Pyrex container. That with a little bit of Annie's Organic Cowgirl Ranch dressing (so good) is a yummy snack. At night, I pack my lunch for the next day at work - baby spinach, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, avocado, sunflower seeds, broccoli, little bit of shredded parmesan cheese, plus some of that ranch on the side, and pair it with a tuna sandwich on whole grain bread with spinach, a blueberry greek yogurt, a piece of fruit, a low fat cheese stick, and some dark chocolate, and I'm all set.
If you really want it, you'll get it done. GL!!
Great advice! Try and find a workout buddy that may live nearby to go on jogs or do the workout DVD's with you if possible.
