Detroit Babies

I spy a DD!

I hate when people come on here asking for opinions and then run away when people don't agree with the responses.

To the DD- I hope you're still lurking and I hope you listen to the advice people gave you.  In general, I think home births are dangerous.  Yes, this is how people use to do it "back in the day", but medicine was also primitive and that's why you had a higher mortality rate.  We now have things like u/s and fetal monitors that alert doctors to potential problems before they actually become a problem.  If you're birthing in a tub, how would you know if your baby's heartrate suddenly drops?  And if your baby is in distress, how long will it take for you to get to a hospital to get the appropriate medical attention?  What if you start bleeding?  Childbirth is still a dangerous process.  When things go wrong, it can happen fast and you only have seconds to react.  Now add the risk of uterine rupture because of your previous c/s.  For your baby's sake, I really hope you consider all the options carefully

Re: I spy a DD!

  • I guess I missed something. I was honestly trying to be helpful in my response.

I did a lot research before having my son, and was really hoping for a water birth, or at least a medication/intervention free experience. I am totally sympathetic to those who want a different experience the second time around, and came back to check this morning to try to provide her more insight and information that may help her. I come from a family of natural birthers, most of which gave birth at hoe - I get why it is so appealing for some. While homebirth was how they did it 'back in the day' they did not do csections, and therefore VBACs weren't part of the equation.

To the OP ks-something or other: if you would like more information on birthing centers to contact I would be more than happy to try to help you out. I am fairly confident that they don't accept VBAC patients, but it is worth a shot. I think the same would hold true to the at home midwives, but I am willing to help you with a list so that you can inquire on your own.

  • i missed the original, but here's my two cents anyway. i'm a big advocate of home birth- under the right circumstances. be smart about who you choose to deliver and about your own personal situation. if possible, see a dr throughout the pregnancy, too, so you get a balanced opinion. remember that in michigan midwives are not licensed and you could be putting yourself & your baby in grave danger.
  • I missed the post too.  I'm a huge supporter of home births and medication free births.  If you want more information from many people who have had them- visit the eco-friendly family board.  MANY of the women there can answer questions you have.  A lot of women on there have had them/support them/researched them.

GOOD LUCK and DO WHAT YOU THINK IS RIGHT FOR YOU and your family.
