OB/GYN recs in BC and AA please!

Hey everyone!

First post on the bump :)

I was wondering if anyone had good recs for OB/GYNs in Baltimore or Anne Arundel counties (city is ok, too). I am due for my annual but since I am going to start TTC this fall I figured I'd find an OB I like and make it a pre-conception appt. The one I go to now is OK for my 5 minute annuals I see her for, but am not really impressed with her overall (general bedside manner, literally have talked to her for 15 minutes in the last 3 years, seems impersonal and too busy, etc). I am hoping to find one who doesn't default to c-sections and pitocin without a real reason, and one who understands and encourages charting and is willing to take time out to talk to you or answer questions. I do prefer a woman but would go to a man if he has all these qualities. Thanks so much!

  • Sounds to me like you could really benefit from seeing a midwife.  They can do annual appointments as well.  I know some people that have been pleased w/Kathy Sloan's group, who practices out of Mercy Hosp.  I can give you some other practices too if you would like...

I am going to ditto anon, specifically for the reasons your listed above.  I had DD w/ a large OB practice here in Annapolis and switched to MWs for my pregnancy w/ DS. You can still deliver in a hospital, get an epidural, etc. w/ a MW, but you definitely get more time with your provider and they aren't as pit-happy, etc.

  • I went to Bay Area.  I know there are some Special Beginnings moms on here though.

  • Thanks! We're more then likely going with Bay Area next time around, considering they're across the street from our OB whom we "like" but want to switch.

  • Thanks! I will make appts to tour with both midwife groups... I think a MW might be just what I am looking for after reading about it. I still have plenty of time :)

  • I went with Bay Area, too. I had complications and was induced early for medical reasons and had to give birth at AAMC, but with the midwives. I had a great experience!

  • I see Dr Erdman at Charles St OBGYN at GBMC.  She is great....the men in the practice are very helpful as well.  I am planning a med free birth at GBMC in Sept and she is super supportive.  She delivered my DS in May of last year as well.
  • I've lived in Baltimore for a little over a year now and have tried 4 different ob-gyns.  I finally found one that I LOVE!!! The Women's Group in Columbia.  Dr. Wallace and Goldberg are amazing!
  • If you want an Ob/Gyn instead of a MW I can suggest Ob/Gyn Associates out of Sinai hospital.  It's mainly women docs in the practice and some of them have speciality experience in IF (though they aren't REs).  Dr. Jacobstein and Dr. Weisman would be my choices if you choose to go there.

I have the number for their office in May's Chapel but if Sinai is closer to you it might be a better choice. # @ May's Chapel: 410-308-7820
