Re: Anyone from the raleigh area?

  • I live in Cary, and in general, it's a great place to live. It has great schools, great shopping, and low crime. It is very family friendly. I'm not familiar with those apartments, but I looked them up, and the area that is in is not the best, in my opinion. I looked at some townhomes in that area several years ago, and was les than impressed. There's quite a bit of low income housing in that area, and parts of it are rather run down. It is however super convenient to I-40, which would be nice if you have a work commute to consider.

Personally, I think there are much better areas that I'd look at first-- Crossroads, Preston, most anywhere along Cary Parkway, etc. Apex and Morrisville are also nice smaller towns near Cary. Hope that helps, and welcome to NC!

  • Thanks. We are so torn. I read a lot of reviews of it being great, but not excited about it being a bad section of town. I want our family to feel safe.

  • Yes, we actually lived there for years until we bought our house.  We really loved our third floor 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment floor plan.  It's been two years, so I'm not sure if the management has changed, but it was awful.  She did not have the best reputation.

That being said, the location is not too terrible.  Yes the townhomes down the road aren't the prettiest and if you go further away from 40 down cary towne it's not the nicest, but you are very conveniently right off of I-40 and Cary Town Center is <5 minutes down the road...Crossroads is like 10 minutes.  The apartment complex features a pretty good fitness center, tennis courts, a small basketball court and a very nice swimming pool with grilling area.  The rent isn't all too bad either.  Granted I only lived there bc I moved in with DH when we were dating, otherwise on first glance it's definitely NMS.  They also have garages you can rent which is very convenient (especially when combining stuff with another person!) ;).

The area was nice enough that the last year before we bought our house, we moved into the brand new apartments across the street because I just wanted a change after being married and they had granite countertops and stainless steel appliances (definitely more my style!).

We now own a home close to the Brier Creek area in Raleigh off Glenwood in a really great location.  I am definitely much happier here - although I do find myself missing some of the amenities (malls, restaurants, etc.) from that area and it's like a 20 min. drive.
