So I had my first official OB appt today. I loved my OB. I got to hear the hb which was amazing over all a pretty good appt. She gave me some new meds to try for my headaches (which did NOTHING ) and some more nausea meds.
The part that freaked me out was when we went over my medical history. Turns out Im blood type O- and DH is blood type O+ . My OB said if i start bleeding AT ANY TIME, no matter how much I need to get to the emergency room ASAP because I will have to get a shot. They dont want me to start developing antibodies and start fighting the baby. It really scared me. She said if I dont start bleeding at all and make it to 28 weeks they will give me the shot anyways.
Did any of you experience this? Im really nervous about this...
EDIT -- sorry i flipped the blood types! all fixed now!
Re: First OB appt today.. kind of scared :(
i am A- and hubby is A+. I had a shot at 4w, 16w and 28w. i also had spotting before my beta and through 11ish weeks so they gave it to me to be safe. the one at 16 i asked for just in case. they gave me the one at 28 wks in case the baby comes early.
my RE and OB both said it doesn't hurt to have it done. it will not hurt you or baby, so maybe ask or it just in case?
hope you don't experience any bleeding.

I am just a lurker here and hoping to join very soon (see ticker-lol)
I worked in a lab and this is pretty common. We had ladies coming in all the time for this shot. You will have to go for a blood test and then they will give you the shot (or vice versa-I can't remember), The shot is called Rogam I believe (I have no idea how to spell it)
Try not to get too worried about it. It happens often because a lot of couples have blood types that don't match.
Yay for a heartbeat, that must have been amazing.
Good luck

I'm B- and DH is A+. OB only told me I'd have to get the Rhogram shot at 28 weeks and again at birth. She did tell me to call if I would bleed for any reason, but I assume that goes for anyone.
If it makes you feel any better, when my grandma had my dad, she had this problem & since they didn't have the Rhogram shot 65 years ago, she developed antibodies to him. He was born w/ a low birth weight, but he was fine ultimately.

I don't believe that God ever tells us "no". he has three options. Yes, not right now, or I have something better in mind. We just have to wait & see.
I would try to clarify what exactly the concerns are... Despite my bleeding and spotting this time, me and baby are perfectly fine. I really don't think you have anything to be concerned about, save for getting those rhogram shots. Good luck!!!
Because we're fancy like that.
I don't think the brown spotting is what they refer to when they want you to go to ER. I had a little bit too around 7 weeks but my OB said it was fine. She said that if I start bleeding a lot like bright red blood and have any cramps accompanying it, then I should go to ER right away. Usually though, baby and mom's blood don't mix this early so you should be fine until they do it at 28 weeks.
