So my b/g twins are almost 5 months now and I am curious as to whether their sleeping pattern is normal. They usually wake up around 6:30 am because both my husband work. They take their morning nap around 9, then an afternoon nap around 12, then a short nap around 3:30. When I pick them up from daycare at 5 they are usually awake. They get sleepy around 6 and take a quick nap until 7 maybe 7:30. They go down for the night around 9:30. THey are now in their cribs and have been for the past month. THey wake up around 1:30, then 3:30 and then 5. By 5, i throw them in bed with me because they don't want to be int he crib anymore, and thats where they do about an hour or so before we get ready for work and daycare. Is this a normal pattern? Should they be waking up about 3 times a night. SOmetimes I can go in and just reposition them and they go back to sleep. THe 3am and 5 am they usually want a bottle. I know this is alot of info. Please guide.
Thanks!!
Re: Twins Sleeping Pattern
My b/g twins schedule is below:
7am wake
9am nap
10 wake
1230 short nap
1 wake
245-4 nap
awake until bedtime at 7
They just started sleeping through the night, 3 and 1/2 weeks ago. before that waking at 3 am for a bottle. To phase out this last feeding, I gave extra formula throughout the day so it didnt seem like they "lost a bottle" then when they woke up, I went in and gave pacifiers, rocked if needed. It did take a little longer to get them to sleep than to just giving a bottle. But by night 3 no one woke up.
Your napping schedule sounded like ours at 3-4 months. In the last month they dropped the short evening nap and sometimes they get really tired and we feed them and put them to bed earlier. We did nothing magical, they just dropped on their own.
I hope this was helpful. I know its very stressful with two!
For at least 2 months our schedule has been:
8:30p-6:30a - Sleep straight through. 1 out of 5-6 nights we have one baby that likes to wake up around 3:30a for a snack. If they wake up anytime before this for any reason they put themselves back to sleep.
6:30 - bottle
7:15-9:30 - Morning nap
9:30 - bottle
11-12 - nap
12:30 - bottle
1:30-3:30 - nap
3:30 bottle
4:45-5:30 catnap
6 - bottle
sometimes they catnap around 7:15-7:30.
8 - bottle and then to bed
I think if we moved bedtimes around they'd sleep 7-6:30 and drop the morning nap, but I like to spend time with them at night and right now we have family watching them so the morning nap is fine. When they go to daycare later this month we will adjust as needed.
Also, all sleep is in their crib except sometimes the 5pm catnaps happen in their bouncers or playmats while we are doing chores/dinner.
Mine were 2 months early and while it wasn't easy we worked on good sleep habits from the very beginning. One of the keys to our success is the glow seahorse. They are old enough now that they know it's sleepytime when that comes on. We also still swaddle and I'm dreading the day we have to stop. And we have one that likes a pacifier and one that doesn't.
