Newborns, what do they really wear

So I am buying and receiving a ton of newborn clothes. I wonder, in reality, what do you dress your newborns in the majority of the time? I figure they don't go out much, if at all for the first three months ( other than dr's appointments) so what is the point in having cutesy outfits? Do they usually just stay in their onesie?

Mine lived in sleepers, mostly because it was cold out. However, once we hit a certain point, like 3 months or so, I started dressing them in outfits every day because, if I waited until we were going out for them to wear the nice stuff, it would never get worn.

this. and fyi my girls barely lasted a month in newborn clothes (if even) 0-3 size got a lot more wear and this was most of what we had anyways...

Ditto PP's. Full body zip sleepers for the first month (rarely dressed them in an outfit) and it was colder weather so we left them in the full body zips day and night. Once the weather started getting nicer we had them in onesies almost all day and night..again rarely dressed them

I have a bunch of newborn outfits for my girls but they have mostly been in sleepers. Since they were still working out the temp issue when they came home and our house has central air it has been mostly what they are in. We haven't really gone out too many places with them yet though. They are 3 weeks and are just now starting to fill out the newborn size. They were 5 lbs and 5.5 lbs at birth and are about 6.5 and 7 now. HTH!

Until they were crawling, they were in sleepers/onesies 90% of the time too. Cute outfits are nice, but I'd return everything I could for diapers. I need those MUCH more!

I'm so glad you asked this b/c I was just thinking I have no idea what they'll wear. I'll concentrate on sleepers for the small sizes then!

Our girls were born the beginning of November so they wore the one piece footed sleepers until they were about 3 months old.

Sleepers and onesies as well. Careful with buying too many of them though.

My guys started out in NB. 0-3 only in 2 weeks. 3-6 in 2 months. 6-9 by 3 months. They're wearing 12m clothes now.

My boys were out of nb clothes so fast they never used any of them except onesies. They have worn some of the 0-3 month outfits, but have already outgrown some before they could wear them. They wore onesies almost all the time this summer and we didn't go out that much because it is HOT here in the Southeast.

I think 3-6 month (or in Carters, 3 month) outfits would have helped the most.

Yep onesies at home. When they are in public I'll toss them in a cute dress or put some ruffle pants on their onesies. I have a bunch of cute 2 piece outfits too.

Mine wore onesies and socks for the first 2 months. I made a point to change them every morning. The only reason I started putting pants on them around 2 months was it was winter and super cold and snowy outside.

Ours were in onesies during the day and footed pjs at night, however some days I would be too tired to change them out of their pjs during the day. A warning against going too crazy with the newborn size clothing, mine were only in them for a month before they had to move up to the 0-3month size. DD is smaller than DS so hers a still a tiny bit too big for her but her newborn clothes were getting too small on her. We only had about 5 newborn size outfits for each of them.
