Uterus hard, but no pain... BH?

I've seen in other posts that some women are having pain but the uterus isn't getting hard.  My uterus periodically gets hard, but it's not painful. It's, at worst, mildly uncomfortable. Is this Braxton Hicks or is baby just growing so much its stretching the uterus like an inflated basketball? (BTW, this isn't happening after sex, I know that causes uterine contraction; this is just randomly occurring day or night)

  • Oooh, I get that too, but I haven't had any pain, or sex, lol. I have wondered it it was contractions.

  • What you're having sounds like BH to me.  I notice that it happens after I'm sitting for a long period of time and then get up to walk.  It's not painful, just annoying and sometimes uncomfortable b/c I feel like I'm going to burst.

  • Sounds like BH to me. Mine used to be like that, my ute would get super hard and I'd be fairly uncomfortable, it didn't hurt but it was annoying. Then I'd change positions (sit down if I was walking, lay down, what have you) and drink some water and it'd subside.

They've started getting painful lately, but they're still just practice contractions since they're irregular and not doing anything to my cervix. (Which is good, we want him in there for a few more weeks!)

  • Sounds like BH.  BH should not be painful.  It's just the tightening of your uterus, and like you said maybe some mild discomfort.

If you're experiencing pain associated with this, then it's probably a real contraction.  Again it's not anything to be alarmed over (I've been having them since 30ish weeks), but if you start to notice them coming in a pattern or they pick up in intensity or frequency, definitely call your doc.
