Babies: 3 - 6 Months

teething at 3 months?

Is it possible that baby is teething at 3 months?  He's been drooling and gnawing on his hands a lot, and really chewing on MY thumb like crazy. He spits out his paci and grabs for my hands and pulls my thumb in his mouth. He's been a little weird about eating too, turning his head away and then aggressively latching back on. He's been acting more clingy than usual, needing major cuddle time before napping and bedtime, and waking up more often at night.

Could it be?

  • he could be...but seems pretty early. they do start drooling more now and are just starting to find their hands and learning hand eye coordination so putting everything in their mouths.

  • LO is 3 1/2 months and she is doing the same exact thing!
  • My lo started doing the same exact thing at 3 months, but he didn't actually get his first tooth until 5 months on the dot.

  • my LO is doing the exact same things too. my mom said it's way too early for teething. i tried giving him 2 diff teethers but after like 2 mins of gnawing on it he'll cry hysterically.
  • Could be teething... Mason got his first tooth at four months exactly! :)

  • DD was the same way. Pedi said a lot of babies can start teething early, but it doesn't necessarily mean they are going to get teeth early. I think (at least with LO) that it was just development. She found her hands, was able to grab and bring theings to her mouth to explore it and she would open her mouth and drool when she was looking at something she wanted to grab, like I'm ready now get in my mouth!

  • It could be teething!  My LO had the white teeth buds at 2 1/2 months old and her first tooth broke through at 3 1/2 months.  The second tooth appeared the next day.  She was super drooly and gnawned on everything.  She only really seemed bothered by pain just in the few days before the teeth broke through her gums.  All babies develop differently.  Some get teeth early and others get them later.  I always had baby tylenol or advil on hand just incase she was in a lot of pain.

  • My son started teething also at three months also.  He is 4 months old now and still hasn't cut any teeth yet but he has been drooling and gnawing on everything he can get in his mouth.
  • My Lo does this all the time and even chewed on a baby's hand at daycare (embarassing for mommy).  I read that babies can start teething at 3 months, but not actually get a tooth until months later.

  • DS started drooling and being fussy around 2 months.  The nurse said it could be teeth even though they may not show for months.  At this point, it feels like an itch they can't scratch.  She recommended using a cold wet facecloth and rub it on DS's gums.  He loves it.

  • My little girl started doing this right before she turned 3 months old. She is now about 4 & 1/2 months old, and just had her first TWO teeth break through the skin last week. Kinda sad that she has teeth already, but her tiny little teeth look soooo cute!! :)
