Hi ladies, I also posted this on the Sept. 2011 board, but thought I'd ask some of you too....
Maybe I'm over-thinking this, but as a FTM, I thought I'd check. Our mattress was delivered yesterday - we got the Moonlight Slumber Little Dreamer. I was so excited to put it in the crib and finally make up the bed (you know, so I could take pictures and oooh & aww about the nursery being finished). Well the mattress fits in the crib perfectly. Did the 2 finger-test on the corners, no problems. However, when we put the fitted sheet on the mattress, because it's foam (and hence, 'flexible') and the sheet is snug, it kind of pulls at the corners a bit, making them a little rounded (the corners actually are pointed when it's by itself) Unlike a regular mattress, that really doesn't 'give' on the edges, I was wondering if this is normal? Again, I may be really over-analyzing this. DH didn't seem to think it was a big deal. But it does make a little more space in the corners of the crib. Any experience/feedback is greatly appreciated!
Thanks ladies!!!
Re: If you have a foam mattress - question for you...
Thanks for checking yours
We def have the extra firm side up. I'm wondering if my crib sheet is too tight - which ticks me off because they are all pretty much standard size. It just seems a little snug and definitely makes the square/pointed corners round - hence causing a little extra space in the corners of the crib. Am I over-thinking this? I mean, a fitted sheet has rounded corners, so being that the foam mattress is flexible, it's taking the shape of the sheet.
I have a foam mattress and I get what you're saying...but I wouldn't worry about it too much.
When baby first comes home, he or she won't be moving around, so as long as you're following all the other SIDS recommendations (nothing in the crib, fan blowing, no smoking, etc.), it shouldn't be an issue. By the time baby is moving around, you'll have washed those sheets so many times that they'll be a bit more stretched out and won't warp the mattress so much. : )
And some fitted sheets are more snug than others, even though they're all "standard" - the Gerber ones are crap, for example. I think I have some of the Koala Baby brand from BRU that work fine, and another from the Dwell Studio line at Target that also works.
