Remedies for M/S

I don't have morning sickness yet, but I was wondering if you second/third time mommies had any good remedies.  Any tricks of the trade?  I have some crackers and that's about it.  Any food items or drinks that seem to tame your quesiness.  I need to stock my cabinets with some good stuff.

Re: Remedies for M/S

  • For me my lifesaver was carnation instant breakfast.  Many days I would wake up and feel too sick to eat anything, but the longer my stomach was empty, the more sick I would feel.

I would drink a carnation instant breakfast and it was enough to keep me feeling full but not too full.  Normally I would be able to get something else down and keep the sick feeling away.

  • Ice cream, burgers, french fries, pizza, chocolate pudding, Skittles. I second the Carnation instant breakfast - the MWs recommended it for protein and calcium in the morning.

The saddest part for me was chocolate and cheese tasted funny! And forget anything with chicken or cucumber, which are staples in my diet. Peanut butter and yogurt made me gag....it was a very sad time. Everyone has different aversions, you'll find yours soon enough. Unless you're super lucky and don't get m/s :)

  • The unisom/B6 combo worked well for me when I tried it later in the 1st tri.
  • I'm really nervous about morning sickness, especially considering I don't want to tell my work right away. It seems so unfair that morning sickness is more common in the 1st trimester when you can't tell your boss. I've had some bouts of nausea already, more like I start feeling shaky/weak after not eating for more than 2 hours. If I ignore the feeling and don't have a snack, then I get nauseous. I found that eating small snack every 1-2 hours helps. Also, sipping some Sprite has helped me. I heard if you can find ginger ale that actually has real ginger, this is supposed to be even better. I'm going to have to search for this if it gets worse.

I had a super food aversion to any kind of meat last time. I didn't get over that until the 2nd tri! One time I ate a hamburger and it wasn't even down for 5 minutes before it came back up. This time, I'm ok so far, but it's pretty early. I'm hoping I get luckier.

OP-I agree w/the pp's. Try to avoid letting your stomach get too empty. It just makes the m/s worse. Ginger ale always worked for me.

Canada Dry has real ginger. It's really tasty and seems to do the trick pretty well.

  • I think it's different for everyone. Mine was a fried chicken sandwich. That instantly stopped it. No idea why.

  • @ marinewife- Thanks for the tip, I'm definitely going to have to get some.
  • Honestly, and this is going to sound weird, sucking on/chewing ice cubes actually made me feel better.  I am not sure why, but it helped me out a bunch of times.  Mine was always worst in the evenings.  The drive home from work and waitint for dinner to be ready was my worst time.  I am going to have to remember to have a snack before I leave the office to make sure that doesn't happen this time around.

  • The only thing that worked for my m/s was the prescription Zofran and I tried everything (even the wristbands) before I finally caved.  I'll be caving much faster this time! ;)

I tried the wristbands too and they didn't work for me at all.  I wish I hadn't wasted the money, but I was desperate!  M/s sucks.
