I bought some maternity clothes...eeek!

I broke down and bought some maternity clothes. I got a few tops that did not look too "maternity" and nothing with the rouching (sp?) on the side because those just accentuated the bloat, a pair of cargo pants with a nice drawstring elastic waistband that sits under the belly and a pair of leggings with a full belly panel that is so comfortable I might wear them even when I am not pregnant (I hate how regular leggings sit right at your belly button, or at least for me they do.)

I needed tops to cover my BeBand and bloat and I went shopping over the weekend for regular clothes and nothing fit. I am not happy with how bloated I am and I am worried because it seriously looks like I am pregnant and we are keeping things a secret for at least another three weeks.

I was hoping to wait a little longer to get new clothes but at least now I am comfortable. Any other first timers looking at/buying maternity clothes?

  • being comfortable is the main thing, plus you'll get your money's worth since u will be wearing them longer!and the pants with just the elastic waistband (not the full belly panel) are great even after pg!

  • I bought a bunch of clothes this week too because I honestly look 4 months pregnant.  The funny thing is my mom was with me and loved one of the sweaters and bought it for herself.  The sales person said that 1/3 of her customers aren't even pregnant!  I just like that I have long enough clothes.
  • I've been clearance shopping for maternity clothes. I have been trying to get stuff that isn't too "maternity" so I can pull it off pg or not. I got a pair of maternity capris at target this past weekend for $6.98, a top for $4.98 and a maternity/nursing tank top for $11.98.

  • I ordered some tops a few weeks ago on sale, but don't plan to wear them any time soon. I have a lot of flowy tops already so I'm able to get by with them. My problem is with pants/shorts. Mine were getting too small too fast. I went yesterday, got a nice pair of slacks for work, some cargo capri/pants and a denim skirt for casual. All have a thin full belly panel, but honestly, it's not bad at all. I thought it would be itchy or hot, but it's really comfy. I like what PP said about getting your money's worth. I'm wearing the slacks for work today and I feel so much better!

  • I too am already wearing maternity clothes (1st pregnancy). The belly band and my regular pants are very uncomfortable. I try to wear a dress every other day to give jeans a break. I have M-F stock of maternity jeans/khakis and a few tops. I'm trying not to wear any tops like you mentioned, that are clearly maternity tops.

Books4Brooke- My cashier said the same thing to me! I actually saw a few ladies who were def. not pregnant shopping in the same section as me. Then again, who knows.. maybe you can be pregnant at 60...

  • I've been mixing maternity clothes & regular clothes for about a week. There is no shame in my game. I'm so much more comfortable now than I was was when I'd have to unbutton my jeans halfway through the day, or my elastic waist skirts kept riding up to my belly button and digging into my stomach.

I tried on these awesome skinny jeans at Old Navy the other day and was slightly disappointed that they were full belly panel instead of just the band. They fit in the butt and thighs but the panel was way too big. I've got them on my to-buy list, though.

  • I bought a bunch of shirts from JCPenny this weekend for work.  Like you Rach, my bloat is out of control.  NOTHING fits.  I need to get the belly band asap, but in the meantime, I've been wearing these really right tanks that kinda hold up my pants when I don't button them.  I haven't bought "maternity" clothes yet.  I want to wait on those for fall/winter since that is when I'll be most pregnant.  For now, I can get away with L and XL.

PSA:  JCPenny has awesome sales & coupons if you have one near you.  I got 6 tops for work for $50 using two $10 off $25 coupons, plus the sale price.

  • I went to Target yesterday and got some maternity capris and shorts. They are so much more comfortable than my regular pants! I haven't had to worry about shirts yet...I always wear tanks under my shirts so even with my BeBand on it just looks like my tank is hanging down under the shirt, so it's not noticeable.
