I had my first beta 2 days ago and it was 286, my beta today was 521. So it didn't quite double. My RE said he was happy with the numbers and could rule out ectopic pregnancy at the 1st ultrasound on 8/15. I asked him why he thought it could be ectopic and he said that he didn't think it was, but I have an increased risk due to stage 4 endometriosis and scarring on my tubes that he saw during a laparascopy. I guess I'm just scared now and don't know how I'm going to wait 2 weeks to find out for sure. Has anyone had any experience with ectopic pregnancies? Were your betas normal?
Re: Betas and ectopic pregnancy?
I haven't had an ectopic-but with the last pregnancy (before m/c) my RE was concerned about ectopic b/c I had low numbers that didn't quite double in 48 hrs. Said low numbers can sometimes be associated with ectopics. Yours are pretty high though, so I probably wouldn't be concerned.
I have taken care of my fair share of ectopics in the ER though-so just be aware of one-sided lower abd pain (not the overall early-pregnancy cramping) and dizziness would be something to be concerned with...if you did have an ectopic. But :::fingers crossed::: that you don't!
When I had my ectopic, my HCG numbers were very low (like I don't think they never got past 100). They dwindled and barely rose more than 10-15 units with each beta test. Also, I was bleeding, before I even knew about it. I didn't even know I was pregnant, but I was about 6-7wks when I found out. I had experienced totally irregular bleeding (like a spotty period that just would not end). Then I was awoken by pain so blinding in my lower left side/back, I could not breathe.
Hope this helps!!

I don't have an one-sided lower abdomen pain, but do have overall cramping (it's a dull ache), it was starting to worry me until I read your post. Thanks for putting my mind at ease.
I have had dizzy spells. I sort of thought it was a normal pregnancy symptom. I guess I'll have to wait an see.
I'm sorry to hear about ectopic.
This does help, thanks for sharing this
I had a suspected ectopic and my betas rose VERY slowly, from a slow start. I'm talking 15, 21, 26...
Yours sound fine, and I think your dr is just being overly cautious and preparing you for any eventuality. Which sometimes sucks.
In my ectopic cycle, my 1st two beta's doubled normally, however, they were lower then yours (like 80's for the first one maybe?). It was the 3rd beta that did not even come close to doubling. Then the 4th beta skyrocketed back up.
If your Dr. was REALLY worried, he'd get you in earlier. It sounds like you are just slightly higher risk then the average. Good luck!!
@ chaucer - How early do you think he would see me if he was really worried. Like next week @ 5 weeks instead?
@ MrsKilduff - how far along were you when your tube ruptured?
