When are you telling or did you tell...

your parents/in-laws about your pregnancy? I posted about a related topic on the April '12 board and it got me wondering about when people commonly tell. I'm sure it depends on the person and relationships with these family members. But I'm still curious. We are thinking about telling parents at 5.5 weeks (this weekend) because we are going to be visiting then, but are also considering waiting until later.

So, when are you, or did you?

With my first we came home to visit and told everyone at 8 weeks so we could tell them in person. We only came home twice a year. But with this pregnancy we want to wait at least 12 weeks to make sure everything is in the clear. I feel like its more about your comfort level and I would also take into consideration the next time you will see everyone in person.

We told our parents & siblings at about 5-6 weeks. Other family a few weeks later. We probably won't tell everybody until much later on though. It is a personal decision though, no matter what you choose. Congrats!

We told both our parents yesterday {at 5w6d} in person. We're starting to tell our closest friends for the next two weeks or so.

We plan to tell our extended family {my husband's side} the Sunday of Labor Day at our family get together. My extended family is all over the country/world - so we will be calling/skyping with them late August/Early Sept.

As of now, we plan to make it public news mid-September. {Just over 12 weeks}

We will see my parents at the end of the month so we will probably tell then. I will be almost 14 weeks at that point, so by then everything should be in the clear.

We told parents and siblings the day we found out. We have told a few close friends but haven't officially announced it to everyone at all.

We told close friends and family right away. I'll wait until my first appointment to tell my boss. DH keeps wanting to post something on FB because he's so excited. I think he's having a harder time keeping quiet than I am.

We told at 5 weeks after the doctor confirmed pregnant with the blood test and I had my ultrasound scheduled.

I can't keep secrets to save my life, so I told my mom and sister two days after I found out. We told DH's mom and sister this weekend. I figured that they are the people I would want to talk to should anything happen, so they can know now.

I waited until we went to the OB to make sure it was a viable pregnancy. Then I made copies of the sonogram and put it in frames and gave them out as "Easter gifts" to our families.

We live in WA and both of our families live in WI. I was only 5 weeks when I was home visiting. I knew it was a bit early but I wanted to tell our immediate family in person. For me, it was so much nicer than doing anything else across the distance. Hugs and tears all around. The only thing that would have made it any better is if my husband were able to be there too.

I was about 4 weeks and my mom immediatley knew I was hiding something. So I told her and I felt so much better.I mean its really hard hiding it to absolutley everyone and I guess it also depends on how your relationships are with your family. I am 7 weeks now and I will wait until after the first trimester to tell boss, extended family, etc..

My husband is telling his mom tomorrow.

She's going to be pissed but oh well. I wanted to tell everybody in a special way but because of certain circumstances, we are telling everyone now.

We are telling everyone after our wedding ceremony (it will only be our immediate family) I will be 10 weeks along and we are going to announce it at our dinner. It is absolutely killing me to not tell them but both of our family's live out of town and everyone will be here for the wedding so I think it will add another level of excitement to the day

With our first we waited until 13 weeks to tell everyone. I'd heard the risk of m/c is lessened after you hit that mark, and I wanted to be safe. DH and I are from the same small town and I didn't want the whole town knowing if something bad had happened. Paranoid? Definitely. We steered clear of the fam for almost 3 months.

This time, we're waiting until 8 weeks after I have an u/s and see a heartbeat. I'll probably be showing a lot earlier this go-round.

We told our immediate familes right away. We had unexplained infertility and I had been open about that-- I am an open sort of person and scheduling fertility treatments affected stuff like work and so forth. So when I unexpectedly got pregnant we couldn't wait to tell people. I told the world last week as I'm getting bigger, and was feeling sick all the time. I don't get an ultrasound until after 12 weeks so I didn't want to keep waiting.

Thanks ladies! I'll keep you posted on our decision... at this point I think it's going to be this weekend at 5.5 weeks since my doctor appt. when really well today.
