Owen's 3rd birthday is coming up and we are haveing a Toy Story (specifically Buzz and Woody) party at our house. Last year we just had the baby pool out and a sprinkler and then all of Owen's toys to play with. At what age do you plan games and stuff? We have a wide range of kid ages from 2-7 with all of our friends kids, so I'm not sure what to do.
I was thinking of maybe renting a bouncy thing also. Has anyone done this and have any pros/cons?
Re: Do you plan activites for a 3 year old party?
I did for Finn's 3rd with the lightening mcqueen theme (hell, I did it with Riley's 2 yr old music party too, ha! but there were bigger kids there), but not in a "OK everybody, time to go do this..." but in a "I'm leaving these car boxes out and you can run around the race track I made when/if you want". I've found the parties where you go and everyone has to stop what they are doing to go do an activity/game is REALLY hard, the kids don't want to stop doing whatever they are doing and then the parents all feel badly and are trying to get their kid to go do what you want them to do and then it just isn't fun. my two cents.
I usually always have an activity for the party if there are bigger kids there. But if I am having the party at an event place then usually no. For ex. Allison's party this year is at GAA and I will not have an activity for the older kids. Another reason is that we are not inviting as many kids this year and sticking to just her close school friends. Her brother will be bringing a friend and between the two of them they will have fun by themselves.
If the party is at a park or our house then I usually have an activity planned for the kids.
Bouncy houses seem to always be a hit.
For our last party, for kids of multiple ages, I set up a crafts table that they could go to whenever they wanted. I had favor boxes to decorate, with different, stickers, crayons, markers, etc. Then a bowlful of candy they could put in the boxes to take home. It was a hit and kids of all ages could play.
DMoney will be a kickass big sister
