Two Under 2

Joint birthday parties

Have you done it? Tell me about it.  We are planning to have a joint party for DD1 (turning 2) and DD2 (turning 1) since their birthdays are 2.5 weeks apart.

Re: Joint birthday parties

  • We will be doing this starting at the same time as you.  DD#1 will get her own 1st bday but everyone will also be there to meet DD#2.  After that- I will merge the two inbetween each DD's bday.  I will also do a cake with just us and DH (and maybe the grandparents) on each DD's actual bday.

  • Hi, i'm lurking. My brother & I are 2 years, 3 days apart. We always had joint parties & I hated it, but I understood why they did it. I suggest doing what pp said about actually doing something special for each kid individually on their birthday. My parents did not do this & it kinda sucked. This is probably just my middle child syndrome coming out though.

  • While they're little and don't 'get it', we are absolutely going to do joint parties.  They're born 51 weeks apart so we'll have one party right around their birthdays and then do a little at-home celebration with a cake on each of their birthdays.

I can totally understand why this sucked when you were older.  We're only going to do it for the first couple of years, until they are old enough to care.
