Girl Name Opinion Please?

What is your opinion on Leah Marie?  I was the one that originally liked it but as always, am indecisive ;-)  Now DH likes it and figures that is what we'll go with.  I also like the name Brynn .. DH does not.  Leah was an option because my middle name is Lee.  DH's name is Brian so I thought Brynn would be cute.  I am also not opposed to the spelling Lia .. DH also dislikes that.  Opinions appreciated!

Thanks!

Re: Girl Name Opinion Please?

  • I think Leah Marie is a great name! It's adorable when she is little and works well as an adult name too!  (hope that makes sense lol)

  • I like Leah Marie, but PLEASE do not spell it "lia"...that just screams "Teen Mom" to me.

  • What about Leah Brynn? Unless Marie has a special meaning to it. I like Leah Marie too.

And def don't spell it "Lia", it looks like it's missing something, and doesn't really look like a name.

HAHA .. Leah it is then ?

  • Leah is a beautiful name! I can take or leave Marie.

Brynn is originally a boys name and I've only ever known a couple of men with the name Brynn so its too masculine for me tbh.

  • i love the name Leah.

the only "lia" i have heard of is the wife or girlfriend of Vince Neil (Motley Crue lead singer). she was on some trashy reality comeback show with him a few years ago and was super scary looking. botoxed up to here, implants out to there, tattoos that were not flattering.

oops. tangent. sorry! just my two cents. :)

  • I love the simple elegance of Leah! Great choice.

Leah/Lia is one of the FEW times I like the non-traditional spelling of a name. (Normally I'm pretty adamantly against kre8tif spellings.) Just felt like I need to defend that spelling. :) You and your husband should spell it whatever way feels right to you, or that you feel best reflects your daughter.

The traditional spelling (which is lovely) has kind of a negative association. Leah means weary in Hebrew, and in the Bible, Leah's husband was tricked in to marrying her, when he wanted to marry her sister.  Most people don't know this though, or they don't think of that when they think of the name, so ultimately, I don't think it's a BIG strike against it.

Having said that, Lia is not a yu-neek spelling. It is a Latin name on it's own (meaning bearer of good news), commonly used in Italy, and has been used for centuries. Also used in Spanish, Russian, and the Hawaiian languages. I like the international feel of Lia, and the modern streamlined feel it evokes.

    Just my two cents. :)
