we do one class that DD isn't a huge fan of. Most of the kids are older and do little parades and nursery rhyme games on their own. DD spends alot of time running for the door and handing me my purse (I'm guessing that's the "let's go" hint). We're paid for the summer so we're going to keep going. I spend alot of time hold her. I get down on the floor and show her what the other kids are doing, I do the games/ parades while holding her. She winds up having a great time. I put her down regularly to encourage her to be independent, but if she wants to be held I have no problem helping her to adjust.

I took DS to one a few weeks ago and it wasn't a fan which was weird because he is usually out going. There is another one next Wednesday that I will be taking him to and trying again. Hopefully he likes it!
my lo has been inconsolable at these things. I sometimes try to go because I am a sahm and I feel like I should be giving him more interaction with other toddlers, but it seems like straight up torture for him so I think I am done for quite a while!
I did a trial class last week, but she was totally ticked off at the structure. She was the youngest of the group and seemed really out of place. She loved the actual activities, but not the group stuff (circle, singing, etc.) I think we will wait awhile until she is a little more mature to try again.
1st pregnancy: m/c began 1/12/09 d&c 1/13/09 8wks. Baby stopped growing at about 6wks.
DS is very reserved in unfamiliar situations. I took him to a Kindermusik class last fall, and he basically stayed on my lap the entire time. However, he LOVED the music when we played it at home. He learned a ton of sign language in the class, and he still gets excited when we sing songs from the class.
I would keep trying. The first few times I took him to story time, we had to leave as soon as it started. He loves it now and asks to go all the time. He is glued to my lap the entire time, but he still enjoys it.
I've found that it takes DD 2-3 times for her to get comfortable with the class and start participating. We've done swim class, Gymboree, and story time at the library. The first time for all of them, she basically sat in my lap or stood right next to me and looked around/pointed/babbled to me about stuff. By the third time, she was full on participating. I would keep trying and make sure the activity is scheduled at a good time. DD is in the best mood around mid-morning, after snack, so that's usually when I try to schedule stuff for her.
I am not going to say hate, but it takes my DD a long time to warm up to things and as much as she loves her music class. There are some times when she will not be happy.
I would try one thing (the thing you think he will like the most) more than one time-maybe he was tired.
Re: anyone's lo hate classes, playgroups, etc?

But yes, some kids do not like that type of play.
