DH and I were having a discussion the other day and something was brought up about how in some parts of the US it is not a big deal to go out to lunch have a beer then return to work. He said he thought it was pretty common up North. Do people do that where you live? I can say I would probably be fired if I ever did that and I know for a fact DH would be! However if not, I would sooo have a margarita somedays!

Wherever I've lived, it's been totally the norm. It might have to do with the type of company, more than anything.
I've always worked for start-up tech companies, so it's a lot of "young" energy, and the whole "work hard/play hard" combination.
At my last (I worked FT up until DS was born, and do PT work from home (1200 miles away)) since) job, we would get beers at 5 pm, and have a few while we finished working (until 7, 8, 9 pm).
It was just the environment in the companies I worked for. Now, that being said, ONE beer at a Friday lunch...not 4 martinis or anything! Also, I've been in event planning for YEARS, so there have been a large handful of $3K nights at champagne bars, etc. when technically, on the job.
Well when I lived in NYC I worked at a law firm and it was pretty common for any visitor/newbie/client to get taken to lunch and that meant "with wine". Yep, back to work from 2-God knew when...
It is much rarer in Australia, here clients will generally either just have coffee if its not after work, or if they have a drink (when you're expected to do the same) it will be after work.
Or it will be a bigger thing like a client's day at the footy where its beer all day all round.
I think in law firms it is very much "as long as it doesn't affect your work". So if people could TELL you'd been drinking it would be frowned on, but if not then that's fine. I happen to know I just can't work as well after a glass of wine so I avoid it which has led to many instances of being thought pregnant LOL?
