So I am new to the bump and I'm almost 11 weeks pregnant in Raleigh, NC. I will be delivering at Wake Med so my Dr gave me the info about the child birth class. I am an Aunt of 8 kids all under 3 so between that and reading lots of books (that my sisters and sister in law gave me), I feel pretty comfortable. However, did anyone do them at Wake Med that you really think it's worth the $85-$100 for the class? I found one online that's free and starting watching it last night.
HELP! As I was told to sign up ASAP as they fill up. Any thoughts or suggestions.
Re: Wake Med Child Birth Class
I took the class and thought it was fairly useful. However, I don't have any small children that I was around for their birth in my family. I also wasn't sure what my preference was on drugs vs natural, what happened from the time you were told "get thee to a hospital!" and "here's your infant!" I mean - you know that there's pushing, there's breathing, but past that? and what drugs are available and what do they all do? and the other benefit was the tour through the hospital where they told you how you can use the different techniques learned in the class.
Course, my daughter had other ideas. After thinking "natural, with drugs after a point that makes sense" I ended up with an induction, doc breaking the water, drugs and a c-section. If you think you're getting enough information to make an informed choice, then I wouldn't shell out the money. Make sure, however, you sign up for a tour of the facility so you can double check your preferences with the hospital policies.
Oh - and one of the things I loved: During L&D only people I wanted would be allowed past security. And it wouldn't matter if my husband wanted someone there, my opinion trumped.
