Hawaii Babies

2 year old gifts

I tried to do a search since I feel like we've discussed this before, but I can't find anything.

Everyone keeps asking what to get Ashton for his b-day. I have no idea and to be honest, he really doesn't need anything.  Maybe some puzzles or books? I am trying to put together a amazon wish list.

TIA!  I can't believe my little baby will be 2 in 2 short weeks!  Ekk!

Re: 2 year old gifts

  • Happy birthday, A! If you go to the beach a lot, maybe a sun/shade tent? We have a larger one for the whole family that we got at Costco, but here's a kids' version:

Or maybe some new UV rash guards... A grows out of his so quickly, but we get great use out of those. Or some additional water/sand toys?

I would also love a pass to the Children's Discovery Center. It's $100 for a parent and child, but I think it's totally worth it. Pays for itself in 6 visits too.

  • Brooke got a tricycle, which was a good present :)

My cousins' received a power wheels ride-on toy when they were two, which I thought was really ridiculous and extravagant, but they used it until they were about 4 or 5, so it got a good use out of it. Pretty pricey though!

I've also seen those wagons that two kids can fit in and put their snacks and drinks inside. You may not get good use out of it now, but when your little one is older, Ashton and brother/sister can ride together to the park or something

Other than that I'd just get him things he is into, or things that you can do with him (sprinklers, slip n slide), or toys he can play with alone to occupy him when the LO arrives

  • I was also going to say wagon or trike. Or one of those water/sand tables (or just water tables)...

Puzzles, books and activities items like Playdoh, finger paint, crayons, etc. I am ALWAYS a fan of musical instruments as a gift and still recommenda the B. Parum Parum Drum for a gift for 1-3 year olds. Finally, a play kitchen with play food seems to be popular with both boys and girls at this age.

Happy early bday to Ashton and congrats to you!

  • Books for sure! I also like when Cassie receives crafty type gifts as well, crayons, markers, coloring books, even sidewalk chalk. If you suggest a trike, I would go for the one with the handle that allows the parents to push. Cassie had a hard time pedaling and it killed my back pushing her up & down the street!

  • I'm eying Magna-Tiles for the boys' 2nd birthday even though it's still ages away, and have had tons of people recommend them!

Technically they're for 3+, but 2 and up seems fine (the pieces are not small enough to be a choking hazard even though Amazon slaps that warning on pretty much any type of puzzle).

  • Thanks for the suggestions ladies. Sad to say, we have most of those items. I am the type of person that if I see something, I buy it:)  I did do an amazon list and used some of your ideas:) Thanks!
  • I responded to this last night and I guess it never posted...

This is us too :(  Since J is the first grand/great-grandchild on my side the g'parents can't seem to help themselves and buy him so much stuff.  I have already started christmas and 2nd b-day present planning and talking with them to make sure they don't buy everything so that we still have good gifts to give then.  I'm kind of bad too...  I had planned to get his a play kitchen but then found one at CL and had to buy it and there was no way I could just set it aside for 6 months so he got it already.

2 things I have been researching - a balance bike (might be a little old, I think 2.5+ but for us since J's bday is only 1.5 months after christmas I need to start buying things that he can grow into or else be faced with picking up stuff mid year regardless which is kind of what happened this summer when he needed more big boy toys and outdoor toys).

And also a train set.  I am thinking of getting him a nice play table and a simple track set that we (and others) can add on to.  My friend suggested buying a full set but only giving him enough to make a simple figure 8 and then bringing out more of the set as his "engineering" skills improve (and adding to it) so that he learns to build rather than just perfectly put together the set as designed.

  • What about something like this?

I read through this list earlier but I can't remember if anyone listed anything like this.  I wanna get one for Kaya!
