Feel like a fool

Saturday when I was BFing LO I noticed on the left side that it was kind of painful.  It got a lot worse yesterday.  My poor nip feels like it did the first couple weeks of BFing.  I didn't notice any cracking or bleeding.  I really wasn't sure what was going on.  After looking online I thought I might have thrush.  So today I called the doctor and went in.  He looks at my boob and says that LO caused my soreness with his jaw/teeth (he's teething but they haven't quite broken through yet).  So I spent $100 to be told that.  Doctor told me to get a nipple shield or pump until it is less sore and then try BFing on that side again.  If it doesn't get better he said I could quit nursing on that side only.  So frustrating.  I've BF 5 kids and have never dealt with this.  It is crazy painful for what seems like no reason.

    I'm going through this exact same thing!!! I keep checking for thrush symptoms, but nada. I told MH that it hurts just like it did in the beginning, and that if I was nursing more frequently I'm not sure if I could keep going. It's terrible. I think I'm going to try to tough it out a little longer, but if it keeps getting worse I'm not sure that I can :( I can't keep my supply up with the pump, so that isn't an option... and I tried the nipple shield (we used it for the firt 6 weeks or so due to flat nipples) and C refused it. I totally feel your pain and frustration, and I'm sorry the doctor wasn't helpful! I plan on buying some new lanolin to start using again... maybe tha will help?

    I'm going to borrow my sister's pump, but I doubt that I can keep any kind of supply for more than a couple days.  I've BF 5 kids and have never been successful at pumping.  But I really want to keep BFing.  At least I know I'm not the only one hurting like I did with a newborn!  Hope things get better for the both of us.  I was going to maybe buy some lanolin too.  Let me know if you figure out anything that helps and I'll do the same for you.

    Hopefully the pump can give you at least some temporary relief! I'll definitely keep you posted if I figure anything out!

    Yikes, that sounds terrible! So his latch is just weird b/c of the teething? Have you tried taking him off and trying to get him to open wider? Not sure if that would help, but it helped us in the newborn stage, and if he's just putting pressure on a certain area of his gums to help with the pain, maybe it's worth a shot...

    Hope it gets better soon!
