Daddy/daughter time?

So, DH admitted to me last night that his feelings are hurt and he feels like Sophia doesn't like to play with him. I'm sure that this is a phase - yes, she is VERY clingy to me right now. What can I do to help them have fun together?

I offered to leave them alone or they can go out and do stuff alone together. If I am not around, she'll play with him, but if I'm in the house, she will run around the house looking for me.

Re: Daddy/daughter time?

  • awww - poor Daddy.

Is there some fun thing they can do that's just for the 2 of them?  DH normally picks up DD from daycare and they go to the playground together on the way home almost every day (that's not hideously hot) but that's "their" thing.  Also, checking out Daddy's garden is "their" thing.  Alot of their things are outdoors - which is totally fine w/ me as I would just as soon stay indoors.

  • He said he likes to take her to the park, but of course for about the last month it has been too hot to leave the house...

  • Maybe on saturdays they could do a Starbucks/DD/bagel run?  And, the she could get chocolate milk and split a donut w/ Daddy?  Or he could take her to Rita's, etc.

  • my DH takes DD to dunkin donuts for daddy daughter time. They both really love it.  How about indoor playgrounds, like Tiny Town in towson mall?
  • Our close friends have two kids. They have a daughter who is 3 and a son that was just born in February. The husband takes DD to Starbucks or TCBY as their 'Daddy/daughter' bonding time.

  • My DH is in charge of bedtime/bathtime- and has been since DD was a baby- I did the nursing part, but he puts her in her jammies, put her in her nighttime diaper, reads her at least 2 of her 3 bedtime stories, etc.  Also on weekends they go and get bagels or donuts together, and he jogs w/ either her and/or DS on weekends as well.

I think the bed/bathtime thing is key though- if your schedules allow- this way my DH isn't doing just "fun" stuff with her.

this is a good point, I wish I'd set up this routine w/ DH when DD was younger. He can put her to bed, but its me 95% of the time.

  • DH and DD go to the park, run errands together, sometimes go to story hour at B&N (there is a Saturday one at our local B&N).  There are also times that I "take a nap" and DD knows she can't bother be then - I can't say that works 100% of the time though.

DH also puts DD to bed every other night and does every other bath and that helps too.
