TTC After a Loss

Faint line that doesn't get darker = CP?

Hi girls, hoping you can provide some insight...

As background, I had a m/c at 9 weeks back in February... we have been trying again since April.

Friday morning I tested at what I thought was 10 dpo (based on a darker, but not quite dark enough opk 11 days prior) and got an extremely faint line using First Response Early Result.  I tested again Saturday, with a slightly darker but still really faint line.  Sunday's line was maybe a bit darker but still faint.  This morning was the same as Sunday (all FRER tests).  2 digitals have said Not Pregnant.

From most of what I've read, I'm thinking this is a chemical pregnancy since the lines aren't really getting noticably darker.  Last time I got a nice dark line at 11 dpo, and these have all been so faint.  It's possible that I'm earlier than I thought, but I still would think I should see a progression.

I know noone can tell me what will happen, but any insight would be helpful - did anyone have this same experience?

Thanks for any help.

  • First, very sorry for your loss.

Because of your past loss, will your doctor see you early for a blood test? That's what I would do in that case. I think it's premature to call this a CP.

    Best of luck to you.

  • Hi, I too am sorry for your loss. I haven't had any experience with a CP but I know some other ladies here have. Are you charting this cycle? I agree with grace, maybe your doc will take you in for a blood test. GL to you. Hope this is your sticky baby.

  • Sorry for your loss!!!

From my experience, that did happen to me recently, and it ended up being a c/p. I had taken FRERs that were all very faint, and even got two "pregnant" digitals. But then when I got 3 negative digitals in a row, two one day, on the next morning, I was pretty confident it was a c/p. I got b/w 5 days after the first + FRER, and my hCG was 14. I actually called my dr. today to get the results from the second b/w that happened on Thurs.

Hopefully this is NOT the case for you, but that's what my experience was. GL!!!

    All of this.

Typically this type of question is more well received on pGal (pregnant after a loss) because they ARE pregnant, where as we are still trying.

  • Thanks for the input - I'll call my dr. and see if they'll do bloodwork to see if I can get some definite answers.

(And I posted on here as opposed to pgal, because I didn't want to get my hopes up from any "success" stories from those that saw faint lines, as I'm trying not to be too hopeful - sorry if my question was misplaced)

Absolutely understandable Smile  Good luck to you, I hope everything turns out ok!

  • I really can't say one way or the other, but that did seem to happen with my 3rd pregnancy, which ended in m/c at 6 weeks.  With my first two (successful) pregnancies, the 2 or 3 tests I took over several days got noticeably darker.  This last time, my 10, 11, and 14 dpo tests all looked about the same.  I was out of tests after that and it didn't worry me that they weren't darker, but in hindsight I wonder if my hcg was already lagging at that point.
  • You also have to remember that you aren't that many days DPO yet. And I have heard of some ladies never getting a dark second line. Definitely hoping for the best for you!

IMO, I do not think it's at all inappropriate for the OP to post this question on this board.  She DID have a loss and is clearly still trying to conceive after it.  I don't think it's fair to jump all over her for this.

  • Well I have had that experience several times and all but one ended in miscarriage. It sounds like it could be a chemical pregnancy or could be a healthy pregnancy...only time will tell. If you want a positive story then please let me know because I even have pictures of fading lines (DS2). pregnancy tests are not really good measures of how pregnant you are, only that you are pregnant. I would recommend having your doc run betas. Good luck and big hugs.
