Nap mats, backpacks, lunch boxes, etc.

Suggestions for where to get cute, preschool boy-looking ones? Preferably that don't cost an arm and a leg! Big Smile

Re: Nap mats, backpacks, lunch boxes, etc.

  • A fan of DD's Mint mat/backpack/lunchbox... They have cute boy ones too.

  • Skiphop have really cute backpacks and lunch boxes (animals).  I got the backpack for both girls.(Zebra and Mouse)

I also got the preschool Pottery Barn Kids set (pink elephant) for Emmy a couple of years ago with her initials on it.

For nap map, I got it from someone on Etsy (there are tons of sellers).  It was kind of expensive, and only used it for one year, but hoping to use it again next year when Ally starts school.

  • I got an owl lunchbag at Target - they had trucks, pandas, elephants and dogs that were boyish too.  His backpack is a plain red from Lands End. I think they do a sale every August, but it's not on sale yet.

  • Marginally spendy, but G has the PBK Fairfax backpack, regular size, and it's great. It was slightly too big for him at the start of school last year, but it's really not that big now and he'll be able to use it far longer than the preschool size one. We actually used it as his diaper bag for a little while and now use it to carry around spare clothes/toys etc.

Nap mats are cute, but spendy, from PBK. I ended up using a generously padded yoga mat and a travel size pillow and blanket for a nap mat. I think I paid $8 for the yoga mat at Target.

ETA: We got the matching PBK lunchbox and it clips right to the front of his backpack. I love it.

  • Wildkin nap mats are very nice.  I bought two at World of Bags last year for my son. Some were on sale for $33.75 a mat back in (7/10).  I just looked at their website and the cheapest that I see there is $40.99 a mat.  One Step Ahead has them for $39.95.  There is one at Amazon for $32.50.
  • Joe has a personalized napmat that was like $50. Kinda spendy, but all the kids in class have personalized ones and it comes with a sewn in pillow and blanket. It is important to me that he has the same thing every other kids has.

Joe has the sports themed one from here:

His lunchbox has dinosaurs all over it...was about $20 I think.

He has a backpack from Pottery Barn, also personalized. I think it was $30-40.

  • We got a cute one a last year from Baby Gap....Not totally cheap, but with the sales it's not that bad.  Be aware, though some of the little backpacks do not hold folders.  We ended up getting a larger Crocodile Creek one.

  • Lands End has GREAT back packs and lunch kits. They're not the cheapest, but not super spendy and very, very high quality. Truitt has Dante Beatrix. I love it but it's all about the look. I doubt it will last him another full year.

I bought my nap mat cover on Etsy. It's not personalized but was one of the only ones I could find with a pillow. A year old and has held up very well to weekly washings. Sadly, it looks like that seller is not making them anymore but there are a ton of others on there.

  • Sorry I'm no help, I'm really just responding so I can find everyone elses's cute suggestions later.

Cooper's school provides nap mats, I just take a crib sheet and blanket for him and I pack his lunch and stuff in a plain black diaper bag because he's not interested in carrying a backpack yet and I unpack his lunch into the refrigerator as soon as we get into his room so there's no point in having a separate lunch box.  Like I said, no help at all.  Big Smile

My big boy is bounding towards 4! Baby brother coming in October!

Custom Baby Boutique is a local business that will make customized and personalized baby/kid items including nap mats and lunch boxes.

I do not work for them, so it shouldn't violate TOS to share their link: https://www.custombabyboutique.com/Napmat/boynapmats.htm

They also have booths at the bigger craft fairs, particularly as the holidays approach.

  • I haven't gotten it yet but I ordered a napmat cover from kidnapmat.com

She was very easy to work with and I hope the cover is cute!

Also ordered a lunchkit and backpack from mysweetdreamsbaby.com

  • I've had great luck ordering preschool nap mats, lunch boxes and backpacks online from Posey Lane.  They are located near Dallas and the reason I use them is for their monogramming.  They carry the Mint line and Stephen Joseph, but it's their embroidery that makes them special.  It's extremely good quality with a good choice of fonts, sizes and colors.  Their customer service is great too.  They ship very quickly and my orders have always arrived quickly too.
