What are you waiting for DH to do?

So my DH has been wonderful and has done all he could do throughout this pregnancy.  But right now, our car seat is IN our car, it just isn't attached to the car yet.  This has been dedicated as his "job" to do but it's just not getting done.  And I feel like this is a pretty crucial job to do.  I can't remind him anymore without getting the exhausted "I know!" Ugh!  What is left for your DH to do that he just isn't doing?

Re: What are you waiting for DH to do?

  • im hoping my husband will make it to the delivery at this point :) Seriously I know he will but he is so swamped with work right now its crazy....he is an insurance adjuster and its been non stop here...first the winter storms which he finally got caught up on memorial day weekend, than June 1 we had a tornado go through our city....he was finally getting caught up from that than we had another major storm this past week with major wind and hail damage (trees down Everywhere!)...they are calling for more storms today too and hurricane season hasnt even started yet (his busy season)

As for baby, my wonderful in laws are helping me with the construction of the nursery (hubby is too at night when he is home)...car seat is still sitting in the living room and needs to go in the car...worse come to worse I can do that (im the old pro after all my nieces and nephews and my daughter)...still need to pack a hospital bag. But ive basically said it is what it is...if things are not done we will deal with them....baby is gonna be sleeping in my room the first few months anyway so the nursery technically doesnt need to be finished right away :)

  • I made a huge list over the weekend and was BEGGING to get it done.  We got through a lot, but I still have more.

We were in the middle of redoing all the doors & trim on the 2nd floor and it's only halfway done.  The heat makes it hard, but I REALLY want it done before the baby is here.  We'll be too busy later and we'll have a lot of people over to see it.

  • He needs to hang her wall art in the baby's room and put the car seat in. He put the base in but he wants to get it checked before he puts the seat in.

  • Not baby related, but the pull cord on the light over our washer & dryer broke, so now I have to do laundry without being able to see much of what's in the washer. PITA!! I'm hoping he'll fix it before I am doing baby laundry every day.
  • Put the damn car seat in the car!! haha He's waiting for my in laws to come up next weekend so his Dad can help him Stick out tongue

I would just go ahead and do it myself if I could somehow wedge myself into the backseat...but I'm seriously to big to do it!

  • We have a few big things I want to get done:

    1. Hang black out shades in baby's room.  We got some from Lowes this weekend but they aren't the kind you can tear to size so we have to take them back.
    2. Install car seat.  I'm not too worried about this but would like it done in the next week.
    3. Clean up the yard. He does a great job keeping up with the mowing but the gutters could be cleaned, weeds pulled, things like that.
Other than that we got the house cleaned this weekend so we just have to keep up with keeping it that way for the next two weeks!

  • My DH has everything done and more, I am thankful for that. However, Im waiting for DH to stop telling everyone that Im doing great, I look great and I feel great. Lies I tell yah! I dont know why he does it cause trust me, great isnt the word but he must think Im one helluva trooper.

  • Install the car seat and finish some sanding and painting in our dining room and kitchen.

He has been working his a$$ off to get all the things on my to do list done so I can't complain although I would really like the car seat in so I can take it to get checked.

  • We just bought new closet doors over the weekend- who knew they would be so expensive?!? So now I'm just waiting for them to get installed...

I'm also waiting on him to make print out some of his illustrations and draw up some new ones to fill all these frames:

I'm not overly concerned about that though, because I know he's been swamped at work. Poor guy.

  • 1. Hang the valance in the baby's room

    2. Get car seats inspected -he made the appointment at least . . .

    3. Set uo high chair just so the box isn't in the middle of the nursery

    4. Move furniture in nursery so we can put down the area rug that MIL just bought us!

  • The only things I really need my husband to do before hand pertain to patching up paint from when we painted our living room over 2 months ago, putting the covers back on the outlets and then baby proofing! I'm lucky b/c worst case, my parents are here to help and they can help me out--I just have so much trouble bending over that I don't think I could handle painting and covering outlets!

We do still need to get our car cleaned and put the carseat in, but I can do that :)
  • Install new heat/AC upstairs (there is currently none in the nursery). Hoping this will happen in the next week.

Call his former employer's 401k plan company so we can get the cash to pay off his car -> new car for me since car seat doesn't really fit in mine.

Help me hang some stuff in the nursery.

Fix his cracked windshield that has been that way since winter since I don't want it imploding on our child...

  • Painting the babies room (which he is doing tonight) and putting together the rest of the baby furniture (got it all at my shower yesterday) and that is happening this week when my brother comes over to help.  DH has been working 70+ hrs the past three weeks so I can't complain at all that he hasn't done this stuff yet.

  • My DHs list is pretty long, he needs to clean out our car (we just moved and theres still things waiting to be taken inside that I cant lift), then  put the carseat in the car, hang the wall letters in LOs room, help his mom order our crib bedding, and put the mattress part on the crib. (i put the crib together but cant lean over enough to put that dern mattress spring in)

Ive told him these things so many times Im just done telling him. He thinks hes going to do everything while Im in the hospital which is not going to happen.

  • I would like DH to get the car seat straped in the car and then he needs to get his clothes into the hospital bag. He has pretty much done everything else that has been asked. I have a very wonderful DH and thankful for him.

Ahhhggg, that's what my DH keeps saying "Oh well if it's not done, I'll just come home and do it while you're at the hospital". No siree!! You're staying with me, and if the nurses come in to do something or show us something with the baby, you need to be there to learn! Not to mention, I'm not exactly going to be up jumping around feeling all awesome either.

Mine does that, too, but I love it!  I love that he brags about how well his wife is handling pregnancy...

  • 1.  Attach the video monitor camera to the wall above the crib.

    2.  Re-attach the plantation shutters in the nursery that he took down to paint.

    3.  Help me get the teething rail on the crib.

There are other non-baby things, but seeing as I've been waiting for him to finish them since before we got pregnant I don't think it is going to happen now.  Like I just realized that when he supposedly painted the trim in our bedroom 1.5 years ago, he only painted about 3/4 of the way up the doorframe and then just stopped "because it was hard."  WTF!

  • Put the car seat in the car and hang the curtain rods (still waiting on my sister to finish the curtains!).

    Nothing... I do everything myself.

Though my partner of 6 years and I are together, we are not currently cohabiting due to a whole host of issues.  So if there's stuff that needs to get done, I do it.

I'm basically approaching my situation as a single working mom; worst case scenario that's what I'll be.  Our baby will be living with me full time, and he'll be coming by to help out and spend time with his daughter as needed.

If it bugs you that much, just install the carseat yourself.  It takes all of 3 minutes and does not require any special skills/tools/strength whatsoever.

  • DH has done SO MUCH already.  He gutted and redid our upstairs bathroom, and has done a ton of other projects we wanted to get done.  We did a lot together, but I've obviously been a little limited with what I can do.  I am just hoping that he takes time to hook up our new bathroom's vent fan.  It's installed and hooked up to the switch, but he has to run the exhaust pipe out the side of the house so we can actually use it.  I'd really like to get this done before the baby.  Right not it's not a huge deal since we can just leave the window open while we shower, but come this fall, we'll need to use the fan all the time.  And I'd rather have him cutting holes in the side of the house on a full night's sleep and not when he's delerious from waking up because of the baby at night.  LOL!
