Back pain from epidural-less spot?

For the past few weeks, my back has been really stiff when I wake up because before I was pregnant, I was a major stomach-sleeper and now it's obviouisly not happening anymore. So I've been making an effort to sleep on my sides with a pillow between my knees.

Now for the past few days, my main back pain when I wake up is on my right hip, where my epidural wasn't working. Well it was working, but I was on my left side during most of my labor and so the left side of my body got all the pain-free-ness and my right side felt everything. So now when I wake up with back pain, my left side is fine, but my right hip where the labor pains were concentrating their "wrath", hurts like heck. It's getting to the point where I'm wanting a 3rd epidural steroid injection (had two before for lumbar pain) so I'm not in so much pain.

Has anyone every experienced this? If so, what did you do? Thank you!

Re: Back pain from epidural-less spot?

  • Since Q, I have awful back pain in the am.  I didn't have an epi so can't speak to that, but in the AM, I can barely make it out of bed.  I also now have trigger finger so I also have pain in my hands in the AM.  Doc seemed to tell me it was just something I had to deal with.  It's better after I've been up for a little while...like I have to get the joints lubricated.

  • Pregnancy can throw your back out of alignment fairly easily.  I've noticed it especially in former stomach sleepers (myself included) who wake up completely stiff if they try to stomach sleep again.

Doing yoga as soon as I get out of bed helps me.  Chiro helps too.
