What do you do when it's the adult who is rude?

I was at our community pool with DD and DD was using the ladder to climb out of the pool when a lady walked over to the ladder.  She stood at the top of the ladder (between the handles), dropped her swim cover up, took off her shoes (left them lay in the walk way), and proceeded to push DD out of the way so she could get in the pool.

I was in shock because I had no idea an adult could be so rude to a child.

If it was another child I would have definetly said something but what do you do if it's an adult?  We see this lady occasionally at the community pool.

  • If I saw a grown azz adult do THAT to one of my boys, she better believe in a God because they'd be the only ones to save her.  A kid, well, you go over to them and say that is not nice and find their parents to deal with them.  A grown adult is another story. They are supposed to know better and act accordingly.  So, I would've gotten up, gotten into the pool to get my kid, and then got all up in the adults face and embarassed the he11 out of her with a good yelling.

    I'm all about confrontation.

  • I'd say something to my DC, like "Oh, honey, that lady must not have seen you on the ladder.  Why don't you move out of her way for just a minute?"

    How annoying!

I would also have been passive agressive, but much more harsh!

    People suck.

  • How old was this woman? Did she "push" your daughter out of the way, or "nudge" her over so she could get through. Were you watching the whole time? Sometimes older ladies really don't "get it" and just move people so they could get through. I don't think she was targeting your daughter or really trying to be so rude.

I don't know. Since it's one time right now, I"d let it go unless your daughter was upset or screaming about it.

If it happens again, I would say something in a way that's not so angry or passive-aggressive. I can't stand passive-aggresive. Either say it or don't say it...........

  • I would have just said: "Excuse me, my child is currently using the ladder to get out, can you please wait?"

People are rude.  I don't get bothered by it but I also don't put up with it.

Agreed and I would've stood there body-blocking the lady until my kid got out safely.
