Pregnant after a Loss

Clomid Success??

Hi All...My name is Mia and I'm very new all this, so excuse my lack of abbreviation knowledge. =) I'm 28 almost 29, have had irregular cycles since 16, although I do ovulate on my own. Just very hard to track when you have cylces that are anywhere from 30-47 days. My husband and I are trying to conceive, have been for the last 3 years. We had a miscarriage last October via natural (unexpected) conception, did a D&C, didn't have AF come again till Feb, so after a few months of dealing with an extremely irregular cycle, we sought help from a fertility specialist. We just finished our first round of Clomid 50mg cd 3-7, unsuccessfully. It makes me a complete psycho, so I'm praying it's worth all the nonsense! Ready to try again this month. I would love to hear success stories from others on clomid! Seeking a little encouragement from fellow TTC'ers. Thanks so much and baby dust to you all!  BTW...when I log in, how do I find posts that I've posted so I don't have to search through an entire catalogue of  posts in this forum. =)

Re: Clomid Success??

  • Clomid worked for me!  I took it in October 2009 and it worked on the first try (unfortunately m/c though) and it also worked on the first try for this pregnancy.  In between those two I did multiple rounds and different doses of femara and 2 failed IUIs.  I obviously am a fan of the clomid!  Good luck!

  • It worked for me as well, but on the 2nd cycle both times.  First time it was cycle 2 on Clomid and that was unfortunately a miscarriage.  Second time, it was cycle 2 we did Clomid and IUI and it worked and I'm now 34 weeks along in this pregnancy with all going well.

    Good luck!

  • I also O on my own, but after my m/c my cycles were also very wonky. After 7 months of TTCAL, my OB agreed to let me try 50mg of Clomid on CD 5-9. I was concerned that w/my late O that I had poor egg quality since we always had great timing and AF kept showing. We were successful on our 1st Clomid cycle. GL!

  • This pregnancy is the result of my first cycle on Clomid...and while I won't chalk the whole thing up to the medication, I think it was a big help.  GL to you!

I hope you have found the TTCAL Board -- the great ladies on that board will be happy to help with your TTCAL questions, and are a great source of support during a stressful time.

  • Self O'er on Clomid here as well...

With charting I discovered that my cycles were on the longer side (45+ days) and so my OB determined that my body was just not timing and aligning all of the "circumstances" (i.e. ovulation, egg quality, ute thickening, etc.) necessary for a successful pregnancy. So in order to produce a stronger and earlier O, we tried 50mg of Clomid on CD3-7 and were successful on the first try.

    Are you charting?

Are you being monitored while on Clomid (i.e. u/s to measure follies and/or determine O date)?

    Are you using a trigger?

  • Hey! Thanks for the response. Yes, tracking, not necessarily charting, but I am being monitored along with using the Clear Blue Easy fertility monitor in the mornings. I'm basically at the doc every 2 weeks, beginning of cycle, checking to make sure no cysts appear and to begin clomid. 2 weeks later on cd 14 I received a trigger shot, not sure how many btu's of hcg. Then I'll go back in with AF arrives and start all over. Ever feel like a test rat? Haha! I did produce one follicle 24mm this cycle...so obviously it's working. My DH and I agreed if we weren't successful the first cycle, he's going in for a motility test, and I'll do the HSG Exam. Fun times! I have a good feeling, it just gets a bit overwhelming at times. But it's so great to hear that clomid has assisted so many women in conception. And I feel like the fact that we conceived once on our own is always a good sign too! I'm praying it happens in the next 2 months seeing that after that I'd be due in the middle of the Texas summer! But at this point...I'll just take whatever life throws at us. =)

  • I also was ovulating on my own, but we were trying for 2 years with an early miscarriage near the beginning.  My first round of Clomid resulted in my current pregnancy.  I know there were other factors at play too, but I think Clomid can take the majority of the credit on this one. Good luck to you!

  • Hi Mia,

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss and long cycles.  I know exactly what you are going through!  I had anywhere from 45 to 60 day cycles and it was awful!  I would ovulate on my own too, but just really late and my RE thinks that's what caused my 2 chemical pregnancies.  I went on Clomid in June and it worked the first time for me.  I was also on Prometrium (progesteron) since ovulation.  I was doing "monitored clomid" where they do an ultrasound to make sure your egg is ready to go (and that there aren't too many), and then they gave me a shot of Ovidrel which made me ovulate 36 hrs later so I knew exactly when I o'd.  It was sooo nice ovulating so early and on time and it just felt a lot better to have a plan and not be waiting on my long-a** cycles every month!

Good luck to you!!!  I really hope this next cycle is it for you!

  • Clomid REALLY worked for me.  I was diagnosed with PCOS in December 2010.  I found out I was pregnant (without any medical intervention) at the end of December 2010 because I hadn't had a period in several months, the first progesterone shot didn't cause a period, and I was about to take progesterone pills so I had to take a pregnancy test.  Unfortunately, that ended in a miscarriage in February.

In March I returned to my Reproductive Endocrinologist (RE), who prescribed progesterone again to start my period and I did my first round of Clomid starting the beginning of April.  That cycle didn't work.  I had the mood swings, etc, and it really sucked.

My second cycle of Clomid started 5/9/11; I took it CD3-7.  On CD 12, I had a dominant follicle scan (ultrasound of ovaries).  I had one barely mature follicle/egg and one almost mature follicle/egg.  I took an hCG trigger shot on CD14.  We had timed intercourse CD12-15.  Two weeks later I took a test and it was positive!!  (Big F-ing Positive = BFP)  A couple weeks after that I found out we are having TWINS!!

So, long story short, yes it worked very well for me.  I hope it works well for you.  Please make sure your doctor is monitoring you by ultrasound (u/s) to make sure your uterine lining is not getting too thin and to make sure you're not ovulating more than one or two eggs at a time (don't want to end up like Jon & Kate Plus 8!!).

ETA: Sorry, I didn't read your response before posting mine!!  Sounds like your doc is totes monitoring you.  Hoping this works for you, and FAST!!  I agree with a previous poster that TTC After a Loss board (TTCAL) is a great place to find women in the same situation you are in.  They can't give you success stories just yet, but they can definitely support you throughout your TTCAL journey!

  • ::::lurking from TTCAL::::

I'm also starting my first round of clomid (today!) and it's nice to read all of the success stories. My cycles were also really wonky, especially after m/c, so my OB suggested we try it. Thanks for posting this Mia! GL to you :)

  • Laura and Cubs...CONGRATS! That's sooo exciting! I can't wait to see that BFP! Liesam, it's a hell of a ride, so hold on tight, but like i said...with all the success stories we hear, I can't help but be positive! Good luck to you!

Laura, I am definitely being monitored...first round there was only one 24mm follicle, so that was great. Had a trigger on day 14, but I feel like we should have had intercourse more before the trigger than after. Guess it's all trial and error! We'll get it right one of these days. If practice makes perfect, then our children will be nothing but! lol

Thanks again ladies, and GL to all!

  • My LO is a clomid baby, and so were my twins (who didn't make it).  So far, so good with this LO.  I have PCOS, and while I also would O on my own, it could be any time from CD 20 to who knows when.  Has your RE checked to see if you have PCOS?  If so, you might ask about using Metformin in addition to the clomid.  I did with this pregnancy and it took me from O'ing on CD 20 on Clomid to CD 14.

    Best of luck to you.
