Pumping question... any ideas?

there is a two day seminar that i want and need to go to next week at the crowne plaza downtown.  i will need to pump while i am there, but where can i?

i called the hotel and the lady was less than helpful.  she acted like i was asking her to drink my breastmilk or something, the way she sounded all grossed out by it.

she said they do not have anywhere for me to pump except for the bathroom, but they probably do not have outlets for me to plug it in.

any ideas?? am i missing an obvious solution here?

  • Can you talk to the seminar's organizer?  They may be more helpful in suggesting a place or getting the hotel folks to cooperate.  Other than that the only thing I can think of is your car, be sure you have the battery pack and maybe a blanket or cover in case there are people walking around the parking garage/lot.

    This.

I had to pump in my car in a similar situation.  Not fun or easy but better than not being able to do so at all.

I'd approach the seminar organizers first though.  Unless there's just not space, you should be accommodated.

And did you happen to get that rocket scientist's name?  I'd definitely complain about her being less than hospitable...she does, after all, work in the hospitality industry.

Check with the seminar organizer.  And also call back and ask to speak with a manager who might be able to better answer your question.

I attended a one-day meeting at the Hobby airport Marriott.  Their conference rooms were booked so my options there were: (1) a single use bathroom with a locking door that had no outlet or (2) the lounge area of a multi-stall women's restroom that had a chair and an outlet but limited privacy.

I was newer to pumping then so I chose option 1.  These days I might chose options 2 since I'm more comfortable with pumping.

  • I would pump in my car and put in a DVD. But thats because I have a cover and a DVD player. I would ask the conference chairman :(

  • Ditto above.  Contact the events coordinator to see what is available.  Heck you could use a hotel room if they'd be willing to allow you to use it.

I have pumped in many public bathrooms.  I always carried a battery pack with me in case there were no outlets.  It's a gross thought but I did what I had to do.

    Last resort is your car.

    You can make it work!!

  • Maybe one of these avenues:

Tell the front desk you need a private meeting room for you and a client during the conference. See if they're providing anything for spin-off meetings? They have stuff for this, surely?

Do you know anyone who offices nearby? Maybe a friend with an office?

The YMCA? You could get a day pass at the front desk and find something there?

Renting a room might be a good option.

********** I dislike all of this trying to figure something out. We're coming from a long way and not everyone has made it yet...

  • You know, if they cannot accommodate you in a building full of private rooms, please let me know. I would like to write them a letter, too.
  • First, who did you talk to?  The assistant or the manager?

Call and ask to speak to either the sales manager or conference service manager over the event.  Ask them if they happen to have an empty office or conference room you can use.  Explain that you need the door to lock and you'll need an outlet (but you can always get a battery pack).

I can say that they likely won't let you store it there - it would violate the health code, unless they stuck it in the employee fridge.  Either way, unless every single meeting room is booked for the conference (or other meetings) they should be able to help you out.  I've done it several times - help out I mean.

  • I would do a 15 minute pump on breaks in the car if I were you
