Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Constant Crying

LO is 9 days old and has started becoming really fussy now. She doesn't want held or put down, fed, a binky, or need a diaper change. She is formula fed with some supplemented breast milk. Is it possible she's constipated? Or is it just part of her growth spurt? Her last BM was last night/early morning today.

Re: Constant Crying

  • It's not likely that she's constipated this early but she could be working through some gas or a poop. Babies tend to seem really fussy and upset with nothing else consoling them when they're working on one of these two things because their digestive systems and associated muscles are really immature. They don't know which muscles trigger the requested actions yet. I bet her fussiness ends with either a big fart or a nice poop. :)

  • DS1 cried non stop 24/7 and it turned out he had a milk protein allergy and reflux. It might be worth a trip to the pedi for a stool check to make sure there is no blood
