Parenting after a Loss

C-section ladies pain question

For those of you who had a c-section, how much pain is normal?  My  incision looks good and there is no pain there but to the right side and slightly above my incision has been the sorest area since the surgery.  Today it is really hurting (kind of like the most intense period cramp ever), even with taking the pain medication I have been prescribed.  I have never had any type of surgery before so this whole recovery process is brand new to me.  TIA

Re: C-section ladies pain question

  • Are you making sure to really do nothing? Like, lay on the couch and let people wait on you? I can't recall much pain (I was off the percocet before I left the hospital) but I know I was sore and slow to move. I overdid it, though, and it took longer to heal. Make sure you're really resting and taking it slow. GL and congrats on your LO!

  • Totally normal, at least in my experience. That was pretty much the worst of it, and I just doped up (I didn't BF, so I was taking the gooooood meds).

If you are ever worried, you should call, but that pain sounds about right. Be sure to take it EASY. Have people hand you the baby, limit stairs, etc. You need to give yourself time to heal, though I know that's hard w/ a newborn.

APP gave you good advice. Try to move around, but take it slow. I was off my pain pills in about 5-6 days, but took 800mg(I think it was that much, I would check ,but I have a sleeping baby on my chest) advil every 6 hours for 11 days.

  • I don't know the worst day for me was the day after the c/s in the hospital and I had refused my morning dose of the good drugs! I learned my lesson and took my noon dose and every dose after that. But when I got out of the hospital I was just on Rx ibuprofen and I was sore but I wouldn't have said I was in pain really.

Like pp said, rest when you can. Yeah you want to walk but let people bring you the baby don't try to lift or bend over or any of that.

  • I don't have that, but that doesn't mean anything, everyones different.  I'd call your OB!!

  • Totally normal. It's also normal to have one spot or side that hurts like a mutha!

Take it easy and make sure you take your pain meds on schedule for the first couple weeks - whether you think you need them or not.- Ice packs on the incision also helped me alot and wrapping my abdomen in a binder also helped when I did have to move around the house.

  • Normal! Mine is still sensitive there. Vosko said that's were the other incision is. Feel better.
