Babies: 9 - 12 Months

creative ways to get rid of veggie purees

Hi ladies! I have so many right now but they are eating mainly finger foods now. YAY!!! We went out to eat yesterday with them & we ordered off the kids menu (pizza) and it was the best feeling in the world. As you can imagine hauling food around for 2 babies is hard work lol..

Anyway...any ideas as to what to do with them? I also have stage 3 sprout meals.

Thanks!!

  • Send them to me! haha j/k.  I would suggest to donate it.  You might be able to find a food shelf to donate it to.  My DD is 11 months and still have a hard time with finger foods but we are getting there.  We had spaghetti and meatballs the other night and she scarfted it.  I just figure I should offer her whatever we are having and have some for backup if needed.  My DD also likes pizza.  We basically just peel the doughy part that's under the cheese and above the crust off.  I was so excited to start solids but now I am ready for her to just eat regular food.
  • I also vote to donate it/give it away.

  • I spread the fruit purees on toast. The vegetable ones I put on pasta. So they are incorporated into finger foods.

    Yes

  • I mix them into yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. You can also mix them into spaghetti, noodles and butter or just get creative with any kind of food.

  • I agree with PPers - I would mix the veggies into spaghetti sauce, cream cheese, etc.  Fruit into plain yogurt or "topping" for stuff like ice cream?

I would just play around with stuff.

    Good luck!

  • I put all my fruit and veggie purees into these meatballs that I make. Typically I will take a package of ground beef, chicken, turkey, or whatever. Put 2 jars of a fruit puree, 2 jars of veggie (or all veggie puree), some wheat germ, 2 eggs, some bread crumbs, and whatever seasoning sounds good! Mix it up. Make little meatballs. Bake them till done. I usually freeze them for quick meals. MY LO loves them! Great way to use your extra purees!

I love that idea! I already freeze meatballs for the rest of the family. They are so easy to just grab and use for sandwiches or pasta.

  • I have the same problem myself.  For fruits I mix them in yogurt and pancake mix.  I  have been adding veggies to scrambled egg yolks and using for pasta sauce.  good luck!

  • you could also bake them into muffins or banana/pumpkin type breads.
  • The fruit can get mixed in with yogart. And I put some of the veggies in with chili.
