January 2012 Moms

so frustrated with clothing!!

I haven't been able to zip any pants or shorts for almost 2 weeks and I am only about 14 weeks! I have been getting by with a bella band, but I don't feel like I need the maternity pants with the big belly pouch yet. I can't wait to look like I have a legit bump, right now I just feel like I look fat. My tummy is even starting to nudge my most flowy shirts.

When is everyone going to go for it with the more snug, belly-showing tops?!

  • I have been wearing leggings at home and scrubs pants at work so I'm not sure if my other pants fit or not Embarrassed

I'm worried it will be a shocker when I put them back on.  But i did notice that my tummy is getting harder to suck in each day....argh.

  • I'm wearing maternity pants. Not only are they more comfortable, but they flatter the bump and make it look round and cute. This is the first time in years ive worn fitted tops. Give it a try!
  • me too.  I went to try on maternity pants but I have no bump so the stretchy part is sooo far down and my shirts aren't long enough to cover it.  So, it just looks stupid.  If I buy a maternity shirt, it's like wearing a tent.  But, my regular pants don't zip up and the belly band looks kind of stupid because my shirts are too short for it.  I've been wearing non maternity extra long shirts and some old pants that are two sizes larger from when I weighed more.  However, the legs of those pants are like a tent on me.  I'd like a bump so maternity pants don't look so strange.
  • I have been in maternity clothes for at least a month now.  They are so much more comfortable.

  • I made the jump to maternity around 7 weeks. I could have gotten by without them, but they make my bump look more like a bump and not just fat. Plus, they are comfy! Pair them with a fitted mat shirt (not a tent), and I look pregnant, not frumpy!

  • Only 14??  I barely have a bump (more prevalent in some clothes than others - I'm loving body-clinging fabrics and horizontal stripes right now as opposed to flowy shirts!)... and still have been in full-on maternity pants & flowy and/or maternity shirts since 13 weeks.  Do I need them?  Probably not, but they are SO comfy and I actually feel pg now!

I'm tellin ya, tight shirts & maternity pants will actually enhance your bump and you will feel you look like a cute slightly pg lady when you walk out the door!

  • I feel your pain. I have been trying to get by with my clothes. Today I went to about 4 stores and bought 6-7 cute tight maternity shirts, a maternity dress, and some jeans. I have been holding off, but I hit my breaking point today when I went in the closet and felt a mess!
  • I started wearing maternity clothes around 13 weeks, just for the comfort factor.  A Be Band or Bella Band can help keep your maternity pants up when your belly's still a little too small for full maternity pants.  Also, some of the under-the-belly pants may work better for you at this point than the full panel.

As far as tops go, a lot of my tops still fit and look decent.  I tend to think that slim fitting tops that skim the bump are a bit more flattering than loose fitting tops.  Slim tops make me look pregnant, while loose fitting tops just make me look fat.

This. Once you start wearing them you will wonder why you waited so longSmile

  • Two suggestions: Buy a pair of maternity pants that has either a lower elastic waist or one that can be folded down. Also, invest in some xl tank tops (I love the ones from Old Navy in tall) and tuck those in as undershirts into the elastic. That helps me a lot!

  • At work I am wearing maternity pants that can be folded down and they are SO much more comfortable then a belly band.  I was also wearing loose and baggy shirts, but now that they know I am pregnant, tight all the way..i like showing off my bump! :)

  • I am wearing adjustable waist maternity pants and regular tops.  I don't look pregnant, just chubby... until I look legitimately pregnant, I will not be wearing tight tops.

Same here!  The full on maternity pants are SO much more comfortable, and they actually shape my bump a little, I've found.  I look more pregnant-bump with them on, rather than just the extra chub look.  Plus, they are sooooo comfy.  And did I mention that they're comfy?!

  • Uggh!  Everything looks weird on me.  Normal clothes are tight or short, maternity clothes look frumpy.  I am SO frustrated with clothes right now!
