Nap Nanny

Just an FYI, there is a Nap Nanny spokesperson trolling the boards promoting this product and passing herself off as a parent who has used this product for her baby.  Her name is msm something.  However her ticker shows that she is 35 weeks pregnant and her profile says she is expecting her first.

I find this very frustrating because I come to these boards (I lurk mostly) looking for honest opinions about products and instead I have to read sales pitches from people who only care about promoting their product.

Re: Nap Nanny

  • Interesting.. especially since they were recalled for safety reasons.

  • Only the 1st generation were recalled. 2nd gen and "chill" are the improved versions. I LOVED the nap nanny we used with our niece (2nd gen) and will use it again with this LO. Don't want them to get a totally bad rap. ;)

  • Princess, that's good to hear that you had a good experience!  It's funny, I have been a lurker on these boards since getting my BFP a few months ago, but never signed up until last night.  I think the pregnancy hormones are starting to take over and I just got very annoyed with that post.  I mean, the whole point of these boards is to receive honest feedback, no?  So to read a post from someone who misrepresents themselves as a parent for the sole purpose of advertising their product just seems very irresponsible.  I guess I just couldn't hold back on that one!

  • Even without hormones it's incredibly annoying when people misrepresent themselves or whatever they are talking about. I don't blame you at all! It's a good heads up for anyone who is considering purchasing something so expensive to know whether that person is giving an honest review or just hocking a product.

I know what you mean about the hormones. My emotions are calming down now that I'm in 2nd tri, but my mouth still has ZERO filter. I don't have the energy for tact anymore. lol

    Welcome to the bump! :)

  • My name is Leslie Gudel, I'm the President and Founder of Nap Nanny.  As you will see on other sites, as well as this one, I have been personally reaching out on any thread that mentions the Nap Nanny where people may have unanswered questions or getting false information.  You will also find that we have many Nap Nanny fans and the 15 of us that work for our company (14 of us are women, 12 of us are Moms) have many friends who have used the product successfully and support us in a number of ways.  Nobody is trained or coached to talk about us.

I would like to address the recall, since the press release doesn't always leave people with the full understanding of what the recall was about.  In the spring of 2010 we began conversations with the Consumer Product Safety Commission after we learned that many people were using the Nap Nanny in the crib.  We are, and always have been, a floor use only product.

One week before the recall was set to be announced we learned that a baby had died while using the Nap Nanny in a crib.  This was terribly difficult for all of us, being moms.

The recall was not because of this awful turn of events, it only reinforced the need to get the word out about how to use the Nap Nanny correctly.  The Nap Nanny was never deemed unsafe and never pulled off the shelves.  The recall was for warnings and instructions, there was no product defect.

As mentioned by ThePrincessAndTheBumblebee (thank you for your comments), the Nap Nanny Chill had been released since the recall, in January of this year.  We've made some improvements, something we worked on for nearly a year.  Just like any other consumer product, we have and will continue to try to better ourselves.

The recall took place over a year ago and it's my personal mission to put this behind us as best we can by making sure any concerns or questions are addressed. I will be happy to communicate directly with anyone that would like to speak with me.  I can be reached at leslie@napnanny.com.  Thank you for your time.

  • Leslie, thank you for the information.  However if you had bothered to read my OP, you would know that my frustration DOES NOT have to do with a recall, but with your spokespeople misrepresenting themselves as parents who have used your product.  You might want to reconsider who you hire, or at the very least train them to be a little better at disguising themselves.

I understand that your are only trying to set people straight about the facts of the recall, but simply copying and pasting your statement on the recall into various threads on message boards does not make you come across as a good businesswoman.  In fact it does the opposite, because my opinion of you now is that you are only concerned with sales as evidenced by the fact that you completely missed the point of the OP.

    Good luck with your product.

    Signed,

Someone who will not be purchasing it.

  • I wish these types of forums were available to me when I was pregnant with my now 7 and 5 year olds (or maybe they were and I just didn't know about them).  I love being able to engage with others in honest, productive conversations.

It is for that reason I have never copied and pasted a single post. The message is similar because the facts are the same when discussing the recall. In an effort to keep my posts as short as possible and not take up too much of anyone's time, I have tried to keep the facts to a minimum. While that will make the content redundant in many cases, each post has been answered sincerely and thoughtfully, as I am passionate about getting the right message across.

As far as a spokesperson, we have fans who are passionate about the Nap Nanny after having used it successfully.  I have openly, on many occasions, encouraged any and all of these fans of our product to spread the word.  We fully understand the weight another mother's opinion carries.

The post after your original post was about the recall, which is the only reason I addressed the recall in my first reply.

I'm obviously very sorry to hear you won't be buying a Nap Nanny.  I'm not here on these boards to try to change anyone's mind, only to make sure the facts are correct when the discussion steers the other direction.

Best of luck through the rest of your pregnancy.

    Sincerely,

    Leslie Gudel

  • Leslie, you're still missing the point of my OP.  I have no problems with fans of the NN voicing their opinions - those are the people I want to hear from!  But when you have a representative claiming that her LO loves the NN when in fact she doesn't even have kids is just a shady business move...PERIOD.  When contemplating buying a product for my LO, I want to hear honest opinions from ACTUAL consumers, not some phony who is being paid to endorse a product they have never used.  My LO's safety is my top priority.  I assume you are a mother - would you feel comfortable if you were researching a product for your baby and found that the reviews of the product were merely product endorsements from a paid spokesperson?  Probably not.

  • Not to mention that spamming the boards promoting your products is against the terms of service. I'm with the OP on this one, I don't like misrepresentation either. If a parent wants to give feedback on a product they've actually used, I appreciate the info. But vendors giving feedback, not cool. Especially if they haven't yet used it yet.

Nancy, boards like this have been around for a long time. There are a few online communities that have been around since before 2000; I have been glad to have been part of them, the friendships and info. Look to your left, there are parenting boards you would fit into and would be welcomed into. Just leave your product at the door (there are lots of parents on here that have businesses, they don't promote them).

FWIW, I wouldn't have purchased the Nap Nanny either. I put it in the list with Bumbo's and wipes warmers. It's something extra to spend your money on that isn't really needed.

This was all I had to see.  No Nap Nanny for me either.

Leslie, do you have time for a sales pitch on a roof for your house or business?  How about some siding?  My family is in the construction business and maybe I can take some of your time to sell you our product as well.

Ha!  Love it!  Glad to see I'm not the only one who had a problem with this!

  • I actually wish I had one when little guy was newborn and will probably buy one with the next one.  I think it would have helped with spit up.  I hate when people misrepresent themselves but I appreciate that the owner of the company is tied in to real moms and their concerns.

Leslie- I think the real concern is that you come across a little sales-y in your post.  Full disclosure (which you gave) and a reply that aligns with the original poster's concerns and another reply to the individual who mentioned the recall would have probably been received better than it was.
