I didn't include mortgage. But I did include school loans(and what interest I'll have to pay) And this poll made me sad, my school loans are going to take forever to pay off:(

I'm with you completely. I calculated the pay off date making my current payment and the answer was never.

We didn't have a ton of debt to start with. Small credit cards, student loans, etc. Right after we got married we started super budgeting and paying off debts. A year later we had our debt-free party! It was under $20k to begin with but it was still nice to pay it off. Since then the only debt we have incurred is our mortgage and we still have one credit card that we pay off a couple times a month. So, I consider us debt-free. It's a wonderful feeling.
I'm not trying to flaunt it, I'm just really proud of us that we paid it off and kept it off. So I do feel good about it.

I didn't include mortgage but I did include our car note. That is the only debt we have right now. Growing up my dad was a bankruptcy attorney so I was always afraid of buying things on credit. We have one credit card but it literally is for emergencies only so it basically never gets used.
DH had a little bit of debt before we were married (student loans and credit cards) but he let me put him on a budget and I got them all paid off pretty fast. I've since earned the name "The Budget Master" as I'm always keeping a budget. Yeah, I'm a dork.
All we have left (aside from 2 mortgages with horrible rates) is 2 car loans and 2 credit cards. THANK GOD! When we got engaged I found out that DH had serious credit card debt. Since we started pooling money and I started paying bills we paid off my old car (before someone totaled it, bastards), my student loans, and 2 of his credit cards. We're down to less than a thousand on credit cards now! I NEVER thought I'd see the day!

We're debt-free except the mortgage. We paid cash for our cars, never had student loans (scholarships & working!) save a ton every month and live way below our means. Our acquaintances make fun of us, but our FRIENDS do not. It's a good life! I see the stress that some people are under, all because of money and wish that they could feel the peace that we do. We have been debt-free during our entire marriage, 8 yrs.
