XP: Pumping and Supply

Hello everyone,I have been pumping for about 3 weeks now and I can't seem to get more than 2oz total. (1 oz from each boob) I pump twice a day once after the morning feeding and once after the afternoon feeding. I don't want to pump to much and have an over supply of milk as I am with the baby most of the time. I have been pumping to put away for those days when I need to run around and I can leave the LO with the Husband.  What can I do to pump more milk? I read stories about women who pump 9oz each time.

Re: XP: Pumping and Supply

  • The more the boobs are emptied, the more milk you will get. I have not been able to get more than 5oz total but now it's going down to 3.5 to 4oz. :( Sad. I am hoping to keep up with the LO's demand too so I am just trying to pump as often as I can.

GL and here's some info from kellymom.com https://www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/low-supply.html

This too. I hope as LO need more that I will produce enough to meet those needs.

  • I have been able to pump 14oz, but my boobs were miserable. It was a really bad day and I ended up having to skip a session. I exclusively pump so there was no nursing first. If you are feeding both sides, I would not be concerned about 2 oz per session.

I get about 11-12 oz per pump session and much more in the morning.  However, I EP only.  But if you are interested in getting more milk try power pumping or fenugreek.  I am not sure how you can do any of the two things I suggested though and still ensure you do not end up with an oversupply.

  • Drink a beer.  Seriously.  Just one beer (I prefer a brown ale) really gets my milk supply going...

Holy crap I'm jealous. I EP also (every 2 hours) and the highest I've ever gotten is 7 oz total, normally it's 4-5 total out of both breasts. I'm on fenugreek, oatmeal, mothers milk tea, I've power pumped, and I can't seem to up my supply and I have twins so I can just barely keep up with their needs. As it is I have to give them 1 formula feed per day because I can't keep up.

I'm going to ask my dr. about an Rx when I see her at my 6 week check up.

  • 2oz after a feeding seems pretty good to me! In the morning I can get maybe 3-4oz total but that's because she's been taking only one side then. In the afternoon I'd be lucky to get 1oz total after a feeding. I'm worried i'll have to supplement when I go back to work.
