My water broke around 3:30am on Saturday July 23rd. We headed to the hospital and the doctor was shocked that I was already 5cm. He said the only thing holding the baby in was a tiny bag of water. DH and I were so excited! Earlier that week I was 0cm dilated. I was having contractions but they really weren?t that intense, nothing I couldn?t handle. Since I was progressing so quickly, the doctor ordered an epidural. The epidural was a little uncomfortable, but I probably made it that way because I was so scared and tense. For the first few hours I progressed nicely. Once I got to 8cm, I stayed there for over 6 hours. The baby was not moving done into my pelvis. The doctor wasn?t sure why. He didn?t think my baby was very big. Positioning or the size of my pelvis may have been the reason why she was not progressing. He said we would have to do a c section because the baby was not going to come out vaginally. At this point I had been in labor for over 16 hours and I totally broke down. This was not my plan. I was tired and terrified. DH was amazing through this entire time. I was in the OR in no time. I had had the epidural in for almost 16 hours at this point and the anesthesiologist decided to use the same needle instead of putting in a spinal. I could feel EVERYTHING throughout the entire operation. It was terrifying. They were pumping meds into me but they weren?t working. I found out later that since I was in labor so long, the epidural could have moved. The epidural had worn off twice when I was just laboring. Alianna Jade was born 7/23/11 at 7:17pm, weighed 9lbs 10 oz and was 22 inches long. That?s why she couldn?t fit through my pelvis. The doctors were shocked at how big she was since I wasn?t measuring that big. I was 40 weeks 1 day pregnant. I wasn?t able to see her for hours after she was born : ( Alianna is jaundice and we have had to take her to the hospital everyday to test her level and go to the pediatrician. We have to have her on a biliblanket at all times. It breaks my heart that I can?t hold her all the time, but she has lost a lot of weight and I know it is best for her. She is a sweet baby and we are so in love with her.

I had the exact same thing happen to me during my second c-section. It was terrifying and the most horrible thing I have ever experienced. My spinal never worked completely and I could feel everything. If you need to talk about anything feel free to email me at laurabelle0425 @ gmail . I had a pretty rough recovery both emotionally and physically due to my experience so I'll be happy to talk since I have been there.
Congrats! She is beautiful.
I am so sorry about the experience. I had the same experience actually. My water broke at 12:30am, got to 5cm around 12pm. Then stalled. At 7:30pm, we went for a csection. I could feel everything. It was horrible. I freaked out, they had to put me to sleep. I was so bummed I missed the birth, but I was freaking out bc I could feel them cutting me. I then didn't get to hold her for 4 hours, because I was so weak and still on drugs. Horrible horrible experience.
But Alianna is so sweet! She's got a headful of hair like my Allie did! Enjoy every moment!
