Devin is here early. Born on Wed (38.3 days) PIP

My little peanut, Devin Mark H was born this past Wednesday at 3:59am.  I had started to have contractions on Monday afternoon, but I didn't really feel them. ONn Tuesday, I went in for a scheduled NST since I was missing my 38w appt due to my doctor being on vacation.  During the NST, i found out that I was 2cm at 50% and having contractions every 3-5 min, though I only felt every one occasionally.

I went back to work thinking that I still had days to go.

On my way home after work, I noticed that my contractions were stronger and painful. I still only felt them about once an hour.  About six in the evening they began to get stronger and more consistant.  I labored at home until 11:30pm. I didnt want to go into L&D just to be sent home. I didn't believe that I was in active labor.

Finally, I woke up DH (I had told him to sleep since I really didnt think that I was in active labor) and we headed in.  When I got to L&D, they checked me and I was 6cm 100%.  Twenty minutes later, I was 8-9cm.  No time for my planned epideral. Oh well. 

A few minutes later, I was 10cm and ready to push. The doctor on call (since my doctor was still on vacation) was really nice.  The nurse asked me if I had taken any birthing classes and I said no. She then said we would do a practice push to show DH and I what to do.  We did the practice and she told me to stop. Baby's head was right there. She called in the doctor and I ended up pushing 3 times to bring Devin out into the world.  (thankfully only 3 times since I had originally planned for that epidural Smile )  No tearing or anything.

It was amazing.  Devin was born at 3:59am Wednesday, 7. 27.11.  He was much smaller than we expected at 5lb 11oz.  He was 19 1/2 inches long.

We were in the hospital until Friday afternoon.  Devin did great. He dropped weight to 5lb 5oz but later gained it back before we left to 5lb 9oz.  We had his weight check in appt today with his pediatrican and he continues to gain. 

Life at home in my new little family is beyond amazing.  I did have a brief moment of sadness (due to being a little overtired) yesterday night when I looked back at the photos taken during my whole hospital experience and realized that I would be turning 39w tomorrow and Devin wasn't suppose to be here yet. Then I took another look at him and got over it. He is amazingly perfect.
