Clogged Duct or Bruise?

Yesterday, for seemingly no reason at all, my right breast became extremely tender to the touch. I didn't notice it until after feeding DS, maybe 15 minutes after when I adjusted my bra. It's on the aereola area (wow, tongue twister!) and to touch it almost feels like it would if you were to touch a new bruise. However there's no bruising or cuts, it's just red, but not very red. I felt for lumps or hard spots because I read clogged ducts felt like peas under your skin by the nipple -- no luck, everything's still soft, just extremely painful. I feel fine, not run down as if anything were infected, so I'm not thinking mastitis. It hurts to manually express milk but hurts way more to feed him, however I keep at it because I know that's the best thing to do to get rid of it. I tried warm compresses, no luck there either. I feed him pretty much around the clock, on the hour sometimes.. so I don't see how I would get clogged. Problem is it hurts, and my left breast's supply is very, very low, and DS hates that side. :/ Suggestions?

Any tell-tale signs if it is a clog?

  • You LO might have cleared the clog for you.  After I finally got the clogs cleared my boob felt like someone beat my boob with a very tiny (but very real) bat.  It took couple days to feel better.
