c/ping from April board..
We also have a 3 year old son, so we basically have to plan the trip around HIM and make sure there's things to do for him wherever we go. We thought beach - but then, it'd be a hassle to keep DD out of the sun constantly, and I don't want to be holed up in the condo the whole time nursing. Much less how I do NOT want to wear a bathing suit just yet!!!
Then we thought Chicago or NYC, but mass transit w/a toddler and baby to haul sort of sounds daunting.
What else can you think of?? (we're in TX).. Anywhere is an option - DH works for airline, so we're used to traveling for free via standby.
Re: where is a good place to take a trip?
Find a resort with cabins and a pool in the mountains.
Not that you need to use this, but 1,000 acres ranch in NY is VERY family friendly. Not 5 star or anything, but two outdoor pools, one indoor, horse back riding for all ages, hiking, fishing, and I remember when I was a kid there are clown shows or family bingo at night. It always reminded me of the set of dirty dancing.
So something along those lines.
Edit: I added a link to 1,00 Acres Ranch because after telling you I went to check out the website. I forgot how much fun we used to have there when we were kids!!!
I agree with some kind of cabin situation.
Im probably bias, but I grew up spending a couple weeks a summer at a small lake in the Adirondak mountains of NY. They are positively beautiful, and if you are close to Lake George, there is a lot to do there in the summer time...
We are planning on doing a beach road trip this fall. (Pretty sure we are crazy with a 2yo and a 3mo but whatever.) We are planning on doing to a cheese factory, a big aquarium, a train museum since he is obsessed with them, lots of walking around the coast down towns, checking out a seal cave, and finally going camping with my grandparents. Since we are on the Oregon Coast, there really isn't to much sun in the fall, and the highs will be in the mid to upper 50s, so no bathing suits for me, except for at night at the hotels.
Since we are driving down the coast, I am guessing DS will watch a lot of movies in the car.
