best second car seat for grandma's?

we have the evenflo symphony for my car but since we moved in with mom( for 6 months while dh is deployed) I'd like another seat for her car but dont exactly want to spend 150.

any good recommendations? It'd be for my 3 yr old toddler who is 34 lbs and about 40 inches

  • EvenFlo Titan. DS has had it for over a year now.

  • We have the Cosco Scenera for our sitter's seat. It was only like $40, and it's rated high for safety.

I've also heard great things about this one.  We got it for DD2 for my FILs car, but have yet to use it, obviously.

  • My mom bought herself a car seat for her car and I am almost positive it is a Cosco Scenera, might have been about 30 on sale and Cadance is now 28 pounds and 36 inches long and she still fits in it pretty good

  • I've heard good things about the Scenera too...it's not super fancy, but it's got good ratings

Sorry, but we have this car seat for DH's truck and we hate it with a passion. The straps constantly get twisted and it is really difficult to pull them tight, I have to put ALL my weight into it. The clips seem cheap to me too. My mom has the Scenera and I have a Britax. Of course I love the Britax, but I would choose the Scenera over the Titan for sure. It is very plan and functional, but it seems to give us a lot less problems  than our Titan.

  • Assuming he's forward facing I'd do evenflo maestro. It's $80, harnesses to very tall (varies by kid, by 18 inch torso, which my tall all-torso almost 4 year old is over a year from still) and 50 lbs and then becomes a high back booster once the harness is outgrown. You'll need another booster later as it's outgrown as a booster fairly quickly, but it'll keep him harnessed to a safe booster age and becomes a booster for a little while.

  • No other suggestions, but I'd skip the Scenera - I think it only goes to 40 lbs forward facing, so you wouldn't get as much use out of it.
  • If he still fits in the scenera height-wise I'd be very surprised. Almost all kids outgrow carseats for height long before hitting the weight limit. For a FF kid a seat is outgrown either when the shoulders are above the harness slot or when the top of the  ears are at the top of the shell. I believe the top slots for a scenera are on the lower end and I've heard that most kids outgrow it by around 3.

  • If he's FF, I'd go with the Maestro.
