Nipple sizing (bottles)!?

Hey ladies.

Apparently I'm full of questions today, haha! I'm pumping and feeding with bottles.  How do I know when to switch to a faster flow nipple.  I know she isn't ready for it now, but just curious!  I read that using a nipple with incorrect amount of flow (too slow OR too fast) can lead to gas, so I was just curious!?
I use the Playtex Drop-In bottles and currently on SLOW flow nipples.. FYI.

Thanks so much! :)

Re: Nipple sizing (bottles)!?

  • I think most nipples have an age guideline so like slow is usually 0-3 months, medium is 3-6 and fast is 6+ or something like that. Really how you can tell is by watching your LO. Does she seem frustrated or give up on feeding when she didn't used to? If so, may need to switch to a faster nipple. Or if she seems like she chokes or gets overwhelmed too easily during feeding, may need to switch to a slower one.

  • We use the drop ins also. Our pediatrician told us he has all babies switch to stage 2 nipples at 6 weeks old.
