I had mine removed (at 18) after prolonged infections e.g. 1 week infected/2 weeks ok - rinse & repeat for 6 months. I won't say it doesn't hurt as that will be untrue. Its uncomfortable for about a week/10 days, its important to eat as normal to encourage healing. Can I ask how old DD is and how bad is her infection?
If its managable and if she's about the same age as my DD i'd definitely wait until she was able to follow post-op advice without problem e.g. eat toast when it hurts like hell to do so. KWIM?
She is three and her tonsils have always been large and have been infected and treated. Now they are larger and have been touching for awhile now and she snores and stuff... so we have seen our pedi and an ENT who say we should have them removed while she is young and about the problems they can cause her being so large...

I have heard that the older you are, the worse it is. I had mine removed when I was in 8th grade and I think it took about 7-10 days to recover. However, every child I have come across that has had them removed has done really well. My friend's 3 year old had hers removed fairly recently and was at a birthday party running around like crazy a few days later. She did have a bit of pain and required tylenol, but other than that, it wasn't too bad. My other friend said the same thing about her 5 year old when he had them removed. I guess kids are just more resilient than adults
My son is getting his out along with his adenoids on Monday morning...I need to stop reading stuff on the internet because I have read both good and bad things. You can send me a PM next week and I will tell you how it went.
Re: anyone deal w/ tonsil removal?
