If you have an older child, what are you doing about the baby monitor situation? We decided to try to not spend the money for a brand new monitor and just re-use the one we have now, but that means we would have to take it out of our 3 1/2 year old's room. We have a very small house, so I really feel that if she needed us we'd most likely hear her, or she would just come into our room, but it makes me a little nervous not to have her on monitor. What's everyone else doing? Do you think 3 1/2 is old enough to be "unmonitored"?

We haven't used a baby monitor since DS1 was 12 months old!!! I cannot stand baby moniters. With DS1, I bought it because I thought it was the thing to do being a first time mom. I woke up with every single little noise from that thing! It sucked! I threw the damn thing away and didn't use it at all with DS2 and certainly will not buy one for DS3. Our house is small and we normally keep baby in a bassinet in our room for the first six months anyway. Did I mention I cannot stand baby moniters?
What are you monitering your 3 1/2 year old for? I mean, what is it that you are worried about with her?
We haven't used a baby monitor for my son since he was about a year old.
So...the old one is going to be in the nursery for DD.
This is exactly how I feel. DD hasn't had one in her room in years now. We still have the one from then but for now we're all in the basement together so we'll probably only use it if we're outside in the backyard, garage, or at night when we stay up after the girls go to bed.
I'll be the odd one out- DD is 3 and we still use a monitor. Although we have a little different situation in that we have to come and get her as soon as she wakes up from her nap or in the morning otherwise she twirls her hair and pulls it out.
We just bought a second monitor, we use the Sony BabyCall, which is only around $40 so it wasn't a big deal for us to get a second one.
