We just started DD on milk a few days ago. When she was first born she got very bad diarrhea from regular formula so we switched to Similac Sensitive and she has been great with that.
We started milk by doing 2 oz milk mixed with 4 oz of formula and that's where we're at now. We'll do that for a week and then do the 4 oz milk to 2 oz formula for a week, and then at week 3 we'll do straight milk. So far, so good. No issues.
But, I'm a little worried bc yogurt gives her diarrhea. So I'm wondering, how long till we see if milk gives her diarrhea? If she gets it from milk, can I try lactaid milk?
Re: anyone give LO lactaid milk?
DS was on Similac Sensitive and Zantac when he was an infant. When we switched to whole milk around a year, he would get constipated and then get diarrhea everyday. And you could hear his tummy rumble from the gas. His pedi recommended soy milk but I didn't want to switch entirely to soy unless we had to. We tried Lactaid and it made such a big difference. He still drinks it now and we don't have any problems.
I would try the whole milk gradually first and then if you have issues, talk to your pedi about maybe trying Lactaid as an alternative. I know a lot of babies that have issues with lactose based formulas grow out of it by the time they're ready for whole milk.
FWIW I dont think its a milk allergy like in adults. I can't have any milk product but yogurt. So I wouldn't give LO Lactaid if they can't have yogurt, I would try Soy.
My neice can't tolerate milk and they tried lactaid and she still couldn't tolerate it. They finally had to switch her to Soy.
